Subject: Clement Manor Show

A few of the members have expressed some confusion regarding the Clement Manor shows.

There is space available for 24 paintings each of the two shows at Clement Manor. I asked the members to write down two pieces for two reasons:

1. In the event 24 MSC members didn't sign up for the show/s, names could  be drawn to complete the 24 spots needed for November.

2. The second painting listed on the release form would be included in the  December show. Essentially those who signed up, signed up for the two shows.

Presently 17 members signed up for the show/s - not enough to fill the 24 spots. The result: The names of all those who signed up were dropped into a hat, and 7 names were drawn to fill the available spots for November - using one of the paintings already listed on the release form.

All members will be given a heads up early November regarding participation in the December show. Hopefully having a number of paintings on the initial release form will simplify the process for all.

See you tonight at sketch - Thanks, Tom

Wisconsin Pastel Artists Deadline 11/17 for upcoming Exhibit Opporunity at Museum of Wisconsin Art, West Bend

From: Judith Grochowski jgrochowski@wi.rr.com

Hello WPA members,

I am very excited to share the following news with you!

Since our last membership meeting, Erika Petterson of the West Bend Art Museum has been in contact to offer the WPA a juried show this coming January!

This will be an excellent opportunity to showcase our group's fine work in a prestigious venue while not taxing other efforts to prepare work for the upcoming spring show.  This is because: you can show pieces which have been exhibited elsewhere (not previously at MOWA) , pieces which are NFS, and work made during the three year span of 2011, 2012, and 2013.

Additionally, they are interested in members who might like to teach a workshop during the course of the exhibit-so if that is of interest to you, I would be very happy to forward your contact info to MOWA's Director of Education.

Please look over the attached prospectus, note the specific directions and the deadline for submitting digital images.

Finally, if there is anyone in our membership I have missed with this emailing, please forward a copy to them or let me know (I really tried to be sure I was emailing everyone).

Kind regards,
Judy

Quiller Workshop Last Minute Openings in Kimberly, WI

Richeson School of Art & Gallery artschool@richesonart.com via richesonart.ccsend.com

Dear Milwaukee Sketch,

Renowned artist/instructor Stephen Quiller is teaching "Color and Water Media Possibilities" at Richeson School of Art & Gallery in Kimberly, WI, Nov. 4-8. There are some (very rare) last-minute openings!

Steve is hands-down the best instructor it's ever been my privilege to work with and knows more about color and color theory than just about anybody on the planet. AND he is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. It is very unusual for there to be last-minute spots in his workshops, so this is an opportunity too good to pass up.

Full information on the workshop is below. Call us at 920-738-0744 to sign up or do so online by clicking HERE. We'll hope to see you at Richesons on November 4!
.
Happy Painting!
Terry

Color and Water Media Possibilities
Stephen Quiller
November 4-8, 2013 / $575

About the Workshop

This workshop will emphasize my approach to color as well as exciting water media possibilities. I will begin using transparent watercolor but throughout the week explore combinations of watercolor, acrylic and casein. Each medium will be used to its advantage in terms of visual qualities and handling characteristics. Each day I will demonstrate and work with participants individually. Please join me at the Jack Richeson studio and gallery in Wisconsin. It is a great teaching and work space and the Richeson museum and gallery housing over 400 works of art is adjacent to this space. It is an inspirational place for a workshop!

About the Artist

Stephen Quiller is an internationally known painter who works primarily in water media, monotypes, and intaglio printmaking. He is best known for his innovative approach to water media painting: watercolor, gouache, acrylic, casein and their combinations, and for his use of color. He has written six books, all published by Watson-Guptill:

Water Media Painting with Stephen Quiller
Water Media Techniques
Water Media: Processes and Possibilities
Color Choices
Acrylic Painting Techniques
Painter's Guide to Color

His research and development of a color wheel for painters -Â called the "Quiller Wheel" - is now used by thousands of painters throughout the world. In addition, he has developed twelve instructional dvds produced by Crystal Productions, as well as two dvds produced by the Richeson Company in 2004.

Stephen Quiller has painted in many parts of the world, but is primarily known for his work done at or near his home in the high mountainous country of southern Colorado.  These subjects include beaver ponds, snow shadows, water patterns, wild iris, and mountain rhythms, capturing the spirit of the San Juans.  Through his painting, he has become a Signature member of the American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society, Rocky Mountain National Water Media, and Society for Painters in Acrylic and Casein, among others.  In 1997, he received the Greathouse medal and cash award in the 130th American Watercolor Society exhibition.

Stephen's paintings have been on the covers and the subject of articles in many leading art magazines. He has also been an invited juror for a number of regional and national art exhibitions.

A popular workshop instructor, he teaches his approach to color, water media, composition, and on-location painting, throughout North America and internationally.

Stephen shows in the Mission Gallery of Taos, New Mexico, and during the summer months he and his wife, Marta, operate their Quiller Gallery in Creede, Colorado.

Hi All

After reviewing the initial itinerary please email me (Tom Piedt) if you are participating and if so, the month you would like to be included. I will up date the initial sign up sheets passed around on Tuesday as needed.
