Gelli Plate Printing Demo at Milwaukee Sketch Club by Carole Milos

One of our members, Carole, gave us a Gelli Plate Printing Demo. All of us got to try this technique. It was a lot of fun!

Basically you just need:

  • Gelli plate
  • Roller - She likes speedball
  • Acrylic paint - any brand - Golden Open dries slower which is useful.
  • Smooth paper - multimedia for print, any paper for pressing. Someone suggested rice paper.
  • Oil (olive, mineral...), followed by solution of 1 drop dishsoap in water to clean Gelli plate.
  • Towels, regular and paper, for drying rollers, other items, lifting paint, and cleaning up.
  • Optional, stencils, miscellaneous objects to press and make designs.
  • Optional, Posca acrylic marker, China marker.
You can use Gelli plate to transfer, graphite, charcoal, conte crayon, laser print, to another sheet of paper. On the smaller plate you only need about a dime to nickel size amount of paint to make a nice thin layer.

Here's a picture of Gelli plate package and her demo list
