Richfield Art at the Mill Entry Deadline 1/17/15

As you plan your 2015 art fair schedule, I would like to invite you to apply toRichfield Art at the Mill.  This is a juried art & fine craft fair and a plein air painting competition to be held on July 25, 2015.  This is our 7th year for this event. The fair is held outside nestled among the trees and surrounded by historical buildings in the beautiful Richfield Nature & Historical Park (Washington County.)

Amenities for exhibiting artists:
  • Ample space between booths
  • Easy pull-up for unloading
  • Reasonable $50 booth fee (on or by 1-17-15) or $60 (between 1-18-15 and 3-14-15)
  • Low jury fee of $10 (two jury dates of 1-20-15 and 3-17-15 with artist notification one week after)
  • Discount on food
  • Booth reliever
  • Free coffee/pastries during setup time
  • Tickets for historic buildings tour located in the park
  • Friendly staff
The quality of our fair is very important which is why (beginning in 2015) we are jurying all submitted photos at the same time.  There will be two Deadlines (lst Deadline: 1-17-15 and 2nd Deadline 3-14-15).  Jurying will take place right after each deadline with artist notification approximately one week thereafter.  This assures the best arts and fine crafts will be selected for exhibit.  The number of like exhibitors will be limited as well to assure a better balance and variety.  (For example, the number of jewelry exhibitors will be capped at seven.  So, apply early for best chance of selection.)

Advertising is very important for art fairs.  This event will be widely advertised in print, broadcast & social media and promoted through many local businesses. We want to reach as many potential attendees as possible. Free admission to the fair and the extra benefit of being able to tour historic buildings are attractive factors.

An application form and guidelines are attached and also available at: www.richfieldhistoricalsociety.org.
(Home Page under 2015 Events.)  Feel free to call or e-mail with any questions.

Painting Sparkling Snowscapes

For the perceptive
painter, the snow covered scenes of winter can offer wonderful opportunities to create artwork shimmering with luminosity and unexpected vibrant color. Paint along with James step by step in an in-depth study of extraordinary masterworks of the snowscape genre. -----------
 Joaquin Sorolla: Painter of Sunlight

Beloved in his native Spain, and admired as one of the finest artists of his era, few have painted the brilliant effects of sunlight like the Impressionist Joaquin Sorolla. One of the most accomplished portrait artists of his day, Sorolla was also an extraordinary plein air painter, capturing on canvas gorgeous effects of sunsplashed light with bravura brushwork and an elegant eye. Renowned for his Mediterranean beach scenes celebrating the lives of the fishing communities and children at play in his Valencian homeland, Sorolla's paintings come alive through a perceptive display of suggested movement, scintillating color, and luminous shadows. Paint along with me as we study in depth the vision and techniques of this master of plein air painting.

We have had a great time at previous workshops in the studio. I hope you will be able to join us for this one!

When:   3 Sessions-
             Saturday, Dec. 6th, 12:30 - 5:30 p.m. or

Eyes of the Impressionists: Techniques of the Masters of French Impressionism

Paint along with James in this workshop as we explore the revolution in perceptions and techniques of IMPRESSIONISM which emerged and was developed among extraordinary artists worldwide in the 19th century.Through an in depth study of master works from key artists of the movement we'll examine the processes and procedures used to create a wide variety of atmospheric effects of light and space, from vibrant sun-raked fields to shimmering opalescent skies.

Our focus for this workshop will feature the great Impressionist artists of France, considered by many as the primary innovators in the movement. Paint along with me as we explore the work of leaders of the French Impressionist movement including Monet, Renoir, and Pissarro. The work of these remarkable painters with their dedication to plein air painting demonstrates an extraordinary sensitivity to atmospheric light and color. These pioneering artists also developed innovative design and compositional strategies to create pictorial environments of great spacial depth and nuanced textures.

I hope you will be able to join us!
