Allen has been a critique at many of our critic sessions at MSC. What an honor for him. If you get a chance please stop in to watch him paint and chat with this very distinguished artist and teacher.

About the Artist...Educator, artist, lecturer and docent, Allen Caucutt earned a BA in in Art Education in 1957, and went on to earn his MA in 1963. Caucutt has worked as an art educator for over 50 years, having retired in late January 2012 from a long career teaching in public schools, universities and on television, and having mentored over 160 student teachers. Caucutt was the featured artist for the Channel 10/36 Annual Auction in 1986 and the first educator to appear in Milwaukee Public School's Educational Television classes. Still working as a producing artist today, he has major artworks in over 75 public venues and over 1,500 private collections. At the respectable age of 79, Allen's continued passion for art and education has been a lifelong pursuit, which still carries on today.
In May of 1999, Allen was awarded the Citation for Distinguished Teaching in the State of Wisconsin by both the Wisconsin State Assembly and State Senate. That same year, Allen "retired" from his 42 years as an elementary school teacher, but that retirement simply meant a transition into something new. Allen went on to teach undergraduate classes at UWM and worked as a regular guest speaker to classes and community organizations. He continued on as a volunteer, visiting artist-teacher, and serving as a juror in exhibitions, all the while continuing to produce and exhibit his own work. In 2006, Allen received the UWM Peck School of the Arts Outstanding Service to the Arts Award on the occasion of his 50th anniversary of teaching. His nominator summarized it well by writing, "Allen applies himself in his art, career, community activities and personal life with an untiring and unshakable zeal that is unique, with a `my cup is always full' attitude in hopes that he may touch just one more person…improve just one more life…encourage just one more career…or help just one more person to achieve their best."
The Artist in Residence program is proudly supported by a grant from the Greater Milwaukee Foundation's Mary L. Nohl Fund.
