2013 Plein Air Workshops are set!

The America’s Great Plein Air Paint-Out organizers have set the schedule for this year’s Artist Workshops.  We will be hosting two Workshops this year; one at the Apalachicola Center for History, Culture and Art on May 5th & 6th, the other at the Port St. Joe wetroom on Reid Avenue on May 12th & 13th.  Registration and payment can be made through the Plein Air website at http://www.pleinairfl.com/index.cfm/m/61/dn/Workshops/.
The Workshop in Apalachicola is presented by an artist that is familiar to all who have experienced the Forgotten Coast Invitational in the past.  Tracey Frugoli hails from Chicago and has been painting since 1998.  She has exhibited throughout the country and has appeared in American Artist and Plein Air.  Frugoli freelances for workshops and is the Illinois/Midwest Editor for Fine Art Connoisseur.  In her words, “For me, painting is a humbling endeavor that reflects and enhances the most noble of our ideas. Light, beauty and paint combine to stir my soul."

The second Workshop is presented by Greg LaRock who is traveling from Newport Beach, CA to participate in our Plein Air Paint-Out.  Greg LaRock’s passion is to capture the outdoor landscape and its ever-changing light and beauty.  The challenge of depicting the three-dimensional world onto canvas is a difficult pursuit, but when it all comes together, it is an extremely rewarding experience.
A signature member of both LPAPA and ASMA plus an artist member of the CAC, Greg has won numerous awards for his painting excellence; the Easton Plein Air event in Maryland, the Newport Bay Naturalist Mural Competition in California,  the Callaway Gardens Plein Air Show in Georgia.  Greg has been juried into four of the Oil Painters of America national shows, awarded a “Jury’s Top 50” at the Greenhouse Gallery’s Salon International twice, and was an invited artist five times to LPAPA’s annual Plein Air Invitational.  "Making it look realistic, yet having a completely loose, painterly feel is my ultimate goal in a successful painting" - Greg LaRock.

2013 Plein Air Workshops
This year Tracey Frugoli will host a two-day workshop May 5th and 6th from 9am - 4pm (EST) at the Apalachicola Center for History, Culture and Art in Apalachicola.
"Simplify Your Way to Better Paintings":  Learn to distill the essence of a scene and paint with more impact. Through demonstration and hands-on exercises, you will gain an understanding of how a painter sees and edits a subject to create paintings that grab attention. All skill levels are welcomed.
The instructor will be working in oils, but all mediums are welcome.

On May 12th and 13th, Greg LaRock will present a "Guiding The Eye" workshop focusing on the basics of plein air painting, with emphasis on guiding the eye around in a painting.  Instruction is suited to advanced beginner and up, and is designed for the oil painter who wishes to take their paintings to the next level. Objectives relating to organizing elements, maintaining and supporting a focal point; achieving depth and atmosphere; understanding the importance of large masses; the importance of edges; color temperature and values; and how to take a 3-dimensional landscape and turn it into a 2-dimensional painting.
Individual instruction will be available, and a list of supplies and objectives can be obtained by writing to info@pleinairfl.com.
