Sonoma, CA Plein Air Festival
During the 10th anniversary of the Sonoma Plein Air event in Sonoma, California (October 1-6, 2012), 40 artists competed for awards and exhibited their outdoor paintings. Albert Handell selected the award winners in the first Kerrville Outdoor Painters' Event in Kerrville, Texas (October 4-6, 2012). PleinAir Launches Exclusive DVD Program With PAPA
Starting in January 2013, PleinAir magazine will introduce a new series of DVDs featuring members of the prestigious Plein Air Painters of America. Filming for this exclusive series began in early October at a private gathering of PAPA members and guests in Maine.  [read more]

Western Visions at the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Wyoming
The National Museum of Wildlife Art presented it 25th annual Western Visions event (August 18-September 26, 2012), and more than 150 painters and sculptors participated, along with 2,000-plus enthusiastic supporters. PleinAir staff member Charlie Bogusz reports on the big event. [read more]

Ryan S. Brown demonstrating for students in Utah
Following a Classical Approach
Ryan S. Brown is a gifted young artist who has been offering classical training through the Center for Academic Study and Naturalist Painting (CAS) in Utah and who will be on the program at the Plein Air Convention in Monterey, California next April (www.pleinairconvention.com). Painting Nocturnes
It's not unusual for Maryland artist Hiu Lai Chong to spend a total of eight hours developing one of her plein air paintings, either in one long session that extends from dusk until dawn or over several days of painting under similar lighting conditions.
