Falcon View 2/16/12

"At long last we had a perfect day for winter plein air painting. The late afternoon sun and golden winter grasses of the Vernon Marsh combined to give the vistas a beautiful warm cast." John

Not sure where we will go next Friday. Maybe Frog Alley.

Teen Artist workshop at Richeson School of Art & Gallery

We're contacting you today to ask for your help in locating teen artists, age 15-19, that are serious about pursuing an art-related career, (or at least having art play a major role in their adult lives). We all know how hard budget cuts have hit the visual arts in our schools and this workshop is meant to provide a solid foundation in representational art to students: Color theory and use, drawing skills, painting and more will be covered. The workshop will take place June 18-22, 2012 and our "home base" will be at Richeson School of Art, 557 Marcella St., Kimberly, WI.

Richeson's is partnering with the Susan Kathleen Black Foundation to host a "National Teen Art Experience" here in our art school. The workshop is an intense, 5-day workshop focused on representational drawing and painting through direct observation (painting from life). Students will work in the studio and "en plein air," taught by the program's founder, Wanda Mumm and Richeson's own Terry Stanley. We will also be recuiting local artists to paint with and mentor the kids for a studio day and a plein air day.

Most costs of the workshop are borne by SKB and Richeson's, but students are asked to contribute $150 toward the cost of the workshop HOWEVER, no student will be turned away due to financial need: We will work with the students, local businesses and individuals to get sponsors for anyone who isn't able to pay the fee.

Full details and the application can be downloaded by clicking HERE. Application deadline is March 15, 2012. Please forward this to anyone who may be interested! Any questions should be directed to Terry Stanley at 920-309-1270 or email info@terrystanley.com.

Pets & People at the Miller Art Museum by Penisula Pulse

Pets & People
The Miller Art Museum celebrates pets and the power of creativity
By Sally Slattery

"On occasion, the museum transforms into a children's playground," says Bonnie Hartmann, director of the Miller Art Museum in Sturgeon Bay. She gestures towards a large, red doghouse at the center of the usually barren museum
carved dog
"Loyal Companion Corgi," carved balsa, by Susan Martin
.

The museum walls are lined with a variety of art pieces -- oil paintings, illustrations, ceramic pieces, mixed media pieces -- all featuring one common theme, pets. A large ceramic bird feeder adorned with pastel-colored birds by David and Jeanne Aurelius stands in one corner; a portrait of a large 23-year-old cat by Craig Blietz hangs on the wall, along with illustrations by the late Phoebe Erickson, a painting of a cartoonish dog by Tim Nyberg, a variety of collectable stuffed animals by German artist Margarete Steiff, and whimsical prints of dogs by English artist Annora Spence. In addition, the upstairs gallery of the museum is displaying pet-related pieces from the museum's permanent collection.

"We have a staff of pet lovers who have wanted to do a pet exhibit for years and years," says Hartmann.

1st meeting of Fine Artist Network Group, March 12, 2012, Mukwonago

Hello Fellow Artists,

As promised, some new developments are panning out for local arts in the Mukwonago area. One of the best ways to increase exhibition opportunities and talent refinement is to bring local artists into a network of relationships with each other. I’ve found that networks and artist exchanges have greatly developed my career as an artist.

To that affect, please review the attached invitation (see below) and RSVP at your convenience.

Brian Hofmeister

-----------------

Calling all Fine Artists in the Mukwonago and East Troy region of SE Wisconsin:

You are invited to join other fine artists from our area, as we are building a “Fine Artist Network” group here. No obligations and feel free to extend this opportunity to other fine artists you know!

Many of us work in isolation (and some of us prefer this option). Yet many of us see great benefits from joining together informally and participating in events and activities that will help us in our creative endeavors. We are not in competition, but rather here to support and grow together as artists.

Please join us on Monday, March 12th, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at Brooklife Church (857 S. Rochester St, Mukwonago) for our initial meeting and greeting session. No fees, no commitment, just dialogue and creative ideas! Light refreshments will be offered. RSVP (for a number count and food prep) by March 8th- to Jim MacDonald email: macdonaj28@gmail.com, or Brian Hofmeister at: brian@hofmeistergallery.com, or Vivian Foster at: SFOSTER10@wi.rr.com.

Some topics and ideas we will introduce include:

Fine Artist’s Network/Mukwonago-East Troy traveling Art Opening and rotating Art Show- at various coffee shops, wine shops, restaurants and exhibit halls. We are planning our first show and opening event for late April or May. Will discuss this at our meeting.

Resource nights: Learn to develop a web-site, managing taxes and business accounts for artists, selling techniques, opportunities and job alliance, learning to find, write and win grant funding, etc.

Possible connections to larger networks or becoming links or chapters to: The Creative Alliance (Creative HUB- Milw. 7 County Region), building a potential chapter of the Wisconsin Visual Artists organization, Wisconsin Arts Board (grants), etc.

Brainstorming- new ideas, possibilities, a network name contest for our group, etc.

And to have FUN meeting other creatives and finding support and new potential for us as individual artists!! This network has much support already. We hope you will join in the excitement and potential.

Please contact us via email’s listed above if you can join us, or are interested.

A brief summary of the lead organizers is attached below. Hope to see you at our opening session on Monday, March 12th!

Sincerely,

Jim, Brian, and Vivian.

Let’s show the world what creative talent and culture we have here in Mukwonago and East Troy!!

Jim Mac Donald- Jim served many years as the Associate Dean for the Milwaukee Area Technical College-School of Media and Creative Arts, supervising over 70 creative design, web, animation, and TV and photography faculty. He led the program to national recognition and planned special events that included the annual “Graduate Portfolio Night at Discovery World”. As a fine artist, he has displayed in many shows and events including frequent Gallery Nights in Milwaukee’s Third Ward.

Brian Hofmeister- Brian is an oil painter and visual arts advocate. He has been recognized as one of fifty “Tomorrow’s Master’s Today” by the Albany Institute of History & Art, and was recently featured in Southern Lakes Newspapers. Brian is known for networking and resourcing emerging artists to participate in developmental venues- vacant store fronts, small business, art nights, and the like.

Vivian Foster- Vivian is a plein air and still life painter. She has studied with James Hempel, Tom Nachreiner, Fred Bell, and Lorin Willey. Vivian is a member of the Wisconsin Plein Air Painters Assoc., the American Impressionists Society, Plein Air Artists and the Milwaukee Sketch Club.
