Just a reminder there's still time to sign up for the plein air painting workshop on May 27th. I have a group assembled and the workshop is a go, but there is still room for a few more at this point. I always love to have a larger group to share the experience. For those of you holding out to see what the weather will bring, the forecast is 63 and partly cloudy for next Friday-perfect plein air conditions for big puffy clouds, sunshine and a pleasant temperature! I have decided to move our venue just north along the lakefront to the McKinley marina, as adequate parking was an issue along Lakefront State Park, and the subject matter was not as diverse and satisfactory as our new venue. We will meet at the second entrance (if you are heading south along Lincoln Memorial Dr.) for the McKinley Marina; E Lagoon Dr. (Not the one at Lafayette Hill Dr directly across from Alterra at the lakefront). You can look at McKinley marina on Google Maps or Mapquest so that you have an understanding where we'll be meeting. Once about 50 yards in along Lagoon Dr, you can park on the right side of the road, or take a left into the UWM U Park lot. The row closest to Lincoln Memorial Dr is open parking for park users. We will rendezvous at the short white and brown building at the entrance to the parking lot at 10 AM. From there you will be able to head 50 yards in 3 different directions to have your pick of painting subjects from the lagoon and willow trees, paddle boats and cattails, to the slips and boats in the marina with the lake beyond, or head towards the former site of the Indian School, where there is now a nice shelter, raised footbridge, and large boats moored along an inlet with the North Shore Yacht Club and raised dry-docked boats in the background.
I am planning on completing 2 different paintings/scenes for the day. One in the morning, and one in the afternoon. I will demonstrate, critique, teach you about color mixing for the plein air palette and how capture immediacy in plein air landscapes, as well as paint alongside you. I will also demonstrate while all of you eat your lunch, so we can maximize our time. We will wrap up at about 4:00PM, but sometimes things go a little longer if people have the interest and enthusiasm beyond that time frame.
Thank you in advance for joining me for this workshop. We are going to have a great day of painting!
Please feel free to email me if you have any other questions.
