Sketching Session Canceled tonight due to upcoming snow storm 1/22/19
From: Thomas Piedt <piedt1@yahoo.com>
Hi everyone
I thought it best to cancel sketch tomorrow evening to keep everyone safe.
We
are expecting the second major snow storm to move through the area
starting at noon and going through the evening and into Wednesday
morning.
This will make traveling treacherous too and from sketch even if we don't get hit hard.
Right
now we have an advisory; however, per weather report this evening
there is good chance it will be upgraded to a storm warning.
Unfortunately I have three new members I don't have contact information for.
If you know one or more please let them know or provide me their contact information.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Surprise!
Next week we probably won't be meeting up Friday morning at Starbucks.
However, a very few of us are planning to go plein air paint (in our car) Vernon Marsh from the upper parking lot off Frog Alley. It's been a while since we've been there. Here's a link to some old 2011 pictures https://milwaukeesketchclub.blogspot.com/2011/02/vernon-marsh-just-off-frog-alley-rd.html

Complete Guide to 2019 Artist Grants & Opportunities from Artwork Archive
From: Artwork Archive <info@artworkarchive.com>
The complete list is broken down into four categories: grants, residencies, calls-for-entry, and opportunity sites.
Applying for artist grants is a great way for artists to supplement their income to ease the financial burden that often comes as part of being a working artist. These grants listed help artists pay for materials, studio space, or even their rent, allowing artists the time to make work without the day-to-day pressure of paying bills—giving them the freedom to make work in an unrestricted manner and dedicate their time to being fully creative.
If you are seeking time away from your routine and obligations to create work in a new environment with new influences, a residency might be more your speed. Residencies vary in their offerings and funding, so make sure to check the fine print section of each listing.

Artist Workshop Association
From: james@awatrips.com
To whom it may concern,
Greetings. I hope that this finds you well, I’m reaching out on
behalf of the Artist Workshop Association in the hopes of partnering with the Milwaukee Sketch Club .
We at the AWA have organized a series of artists’ workshops with
the goal of providing these opportunities annually to artists across the
country. Further, we’ve designed these workshops so that our partner
organizations benefit as well. As outlined below, the idea here is to allow you
to offer some excellent learning experiences for your community without having
to organize traveling to the destination yourself.
In short: the AWA workshops can be offered as a great addition to
your regular workshop and paint out offerings without any extra burden on you- no minimum
enrollment, no hiring instructors, no organizing and booking lodging, etc.
Since we partner with local organizations across the country, even
if only a one member of your community is interested in our workshops, they now
have the opportunity to join us. For each member of your community that does
participate, we’ll give you $100. Alternatively, it seems that you may be
a group of artists, so if you would prefer, we could instead offer a discount
of $100 to your members.
In 2019 we’ve organized a series of artist’s workshops:
-Jun 11- July 6 Perugia, Italy
-Aug. 10-18 Portland and the Oregon Coast Plein Air
-Oct. 5-13 Hudson Valley Plein Air
-Aug. 10-18 Portland and the Oregon Coast Plein Air
-Oct. 5-13 Hudson Valley Plein Air
For the Perugia program we’ve partnered with the Hudson Valley Art
Association to offer scholarships for young artists aged 18-24. This offering
is actually a series of eight different workshops taught by eight different
artists in everything from portrait painting in oils to plein air watercolors.
I’ve attached the itineraries for all three 2019 workshops so that
you can look over them. You can also visit us online: www.awatrips.com
and on FB and IG: @awatrips
As an artist and educator who has taught in both collegiate and
community art center settings, I know that the task of organizing these types
of opportunities often isn’t feasible for local organizations that may not have
a large enough community to support such an endeavor, even if there is interest
within the community.
This issue is what inspired the creation of AWA. We’ve organized
some fantastic itineraries and workshops led by some amazing artists, and we
take care of all of the logistics. We cover all bookings, on-ground
transportation, payment collection, and perhaps most importantly from your
point of view: insurances and liabilities are our responsibilities.
Truly, all that is required of the local organizations we partner
with is that you share these opportunities with your community. Then, as
mentioned above, when artists register- they’ll enter the referring
school/organization, and for every member of your community that joins a
workshop we’ll send you $100.
Also, we have the 2019 workshops staffed, but we are planning to
rotate not only the locations but instructors as well, so perhaps we can
explore having a member of your faculty lead a future workshop or organizing a
local event- there are lots of options.
I have tried to be as thorough but as brief as possible in this
email. Of course, if you have any questions, I would be happy to answer them.
Feel free to respond to this email or call me at the number in my signature
below.
I look forward to hearing back from you and hope that we can
partner and share these opportunities with your community.
Regards,
James

Subject: Partnering to Offer Artist Workshops AWA
Morning everyone
Recently I forwarded an
email offering a few art enrichment opportunities. This was a long
complicated email to our group so for clarification:
The AWA (Artist
Workshop Association) will provide sketch club members a $100 discount
on the art enrichment opportunities listed in the forwarded email.
Interested parties should let the AWA know you're a member of the
Milwaukee Sketch Club to receive the discount.
