Sketching at the Milwaukee County Zoo (Free Day!)
Milwaukee County Zoo 10001 W Bluemound Road, Milwaukee WI

How to find them
"First we'll be meeting in the main building at the front entrance at 10am. Every two hours after that (Noon, 2pm and 4pm) we'll be meeting inside the Flamingo Cafe. Look for the folks with sketchbooks!"

Details

Join us for a fun day of sketching on Saturday, November 2nd from 10am to 4pm at the Milwaukee County Zoo! Admission to the Zoo will be free on the 2nd (parking fees still apply). This is a longer meetup than our usual time of 2 hours, since the zoo is so large and there's so much to see/draw. The meetup will be a total of six hours and broken up into three two-hour blocks of sketching.

Please do not feel obligated to attend the entire meetup! This is a long one, so if you can only make it for a couple of hours that's totally fine, we're happy to have you!

Sketching Block 1: 10:00am - 12:00pm
Sketching Block 2: 12:00pm - 2:00pm
Sketching Block 3: 2:00pm - 4:00pm
We will first be meeting up inside the main building at the front entrance at 10:00am. From there we'll spread out, sketch for two hours, then meet up as a group again at 12:00 inside the Flamingo Cafe (near the front entrance) to show what we've been working on. Feel free to get lunch while we're there! After that we'll spread out again until 2pm, where we'll meet at the Flamingo Cafe again for another round of show and tell. We'll have one more two-hour long drawing session after that until our final regrouping at 4pm, again at the Cafe.

Unless there's a complete monsoon outside, we will be meeting rain or shine! If the weather is crummy there are plenty of indoor spaces at the zoo to sketch.

If you have any questions or may arrive later in the day, feel free to message Bryan and let him know. Hope to see you there!

Where: Milwaukee County Zoo
When: Saturday, November 2nd from 10am - 4pm
Admission and Parking: Entrance to the Zoo will be free, parking fees apply.
What to bring: Your favorite drawing/sketching supplies.

Covered Bridge Art Studio Tour October 11-13, 2019

ref: https://cedarburgartistsguild.com/coveredbridgeartstudiotour.html

Your tour begins anywhere YOU want to visit. No tickets, No reservations.

New Hours :
Friday, Oct 11 4-8
Saturday AND Sunday : 10- 5

FREE Covered Bridge Art Studio Tour is a 37 year tradition for art enthusiasts. 54 artists from Mequon to West Bend will open their studio spaces to the public on the weekend of October 11-13, 2019 . Thirty-seven years ago, this event began as a studio and gallery tour in historic Cedarburg. Today, it is a unique opportunity for people to get an up close and personal look at some of Southeastern Wisconsin’s
finest artists and the spaces in which they work.

Artists invite you into their creative spaces, whether it be a spare bedroom in a suburban ranch home, a remodeled chicken coop, an industrial garage, a restored 19th century barn or stone house, an 1850‘s stone woolen mill, a walk-out basement, or a tent . The rural drive between locations encompasses farm fields, pumpkin patches, Lake Michigan shoreline, rivers, picturesque small towns and even the last remaining
wooden Covered Bridge in Wisconsin. Most of the artists will be creating art during the event; all are happy to explain their artistic process and inspirations. This is your chance to purchase a unique piece of art directly from the artist along with its “ story of creation”.

Wisconsin Author Lindsay Starck collaborates with Artists at
Gallery 2o7

Lindsay Starck, Milwaukee native and author of novel Noah’s Wife, collaborates with six artists for an evening of art and literature at Gallery 2o7. Each artist will present a unique piece of art inspired by Starck’s debut novel. At the opening reception on Friday, October 4, 2019 at 6:00 pm at Gallery 2o7, 207 E Buffalo Street, Suite 130, Milwaukee, WI, Starck will do a brief presentation followed by a Q & A session. Each of the participating artists will explain the inspiration for their work. Books will be available for purchase and for signing by the author following the presentation.
Participating artists include Ann Baer, Jeanne Nikolai Olivieri, Stacy Ollmann, David Schaefer, Julia Taylor, and Robert Zondag. Exhibition will be up until October 24, 2019.

Born in Milwaukee, Lindsay Starck spent much of her childhood at the Milwaukee Public Library. An avid reader and daughter of then librarian Lorelei Starck, she went on to earn her B.A. in Literature from Yale, her M.F.A in Fiction from Notre Dame, and her Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She currently works as an Assistant Professor of English at Augsburg University in Minneapolis, where she also co-directs the MFA program.

Starck’s novel, Noah’s Wife, was published by G.P. Putnam’s Sons in January 2016. Loosely drawing on the tale of Noah’s Ark, Starck developed a modern fable which brings to mind climate change, feminism, the strength of the human spirit, community and hope.

“Starck's unusual, often charmingly phrased fable is constructed around the responses of a band of individuals to life's unpredictable challenges. . . Variously romantic, symbolic, philosophical, feminist, and fanciful, this is an atmospheric tale that meanders to a sweetly rousing conclusion. Forget the ark, forget the patriarch. It's the women who tend to triumph in this modern take on an Old Testament parable.” – Kirkus Reviews

“Noah’s Wife by Lindsay Starck is a riveting fable based loosely on the biblical story of Noah’s Ark. Only this time, it is Noah’s wife herself who embraces the ideas of faith and community, and her strength and compassion give this story a powerful, modern twist. Although the novel is filled with such exquisite detail that you may want to read this while sitting under an umbrella, Starck’s strength is in her characters. She peoples the sodden town with compelling, often hilarious individuals, each of whom will remain with you long after you turn the last page.”  —Melanie Benjamin, New York Times–bestselling author of The Aviator’s Wife
“Noah’s Wife may be a contemporary allegory, but Lindsay Starck is a classic storyteller dealing with human folly in the face of nature’s ungovernable force.  Her novel is an engrossing fusion of wisdom and beautiful writing.” —Mary McGarry Morris, internationally bestselling author
