March Detour by Carr

While Milwaukee is often called a “City of Neighborhoods,” learning about communities outside of your own can be a challenge — it’s not always obvious where to start. Join Milwaukee enthusiast Adam Carr for an in-depth bus tour and exploration of culture/history/depth/texture in Milwaukee neighborhoods.
This is part one of two MKE101 tours in 2017, designed to explore some of the most fundamental ideas of our city. The tour’s route and itinerary will be inspired by Explore MKE: Your Neighborhood, Our City, a book recently written by Carr and published by SHARP Literacy. Our focus during this leg will be the South Side, with the second leg focusing on the North Side.
The tour will include a handful of stops, as well as food/snacks along the route. Be prepared to get off the bus and explore.

The opening reception is this Friday, January 20, 5-9pm. The gallery is located at 839 S. 5th Street, at the corner of W. Walker Street. The show runs through February 18.

Call for Art: Statement Juried Show

from: From: Brian Hofmeister <brian@hofmeistergallery.com>

Hi Artist Friends and Acquaintances,

The next fine arts show I’ll be organizing is taking place in February!

It's a themed show, lasting one week, with an opening reception that will include complimentary punch, a cash bar, and appetizers.  The theme is "STATEMENT: The Message Behind the Art."  We'd love for you to participate and include artist statements to help the viewing audience appreciate the heart/thought/intent behind your work.  You can participate with as little as one entry, or as many as twelve as space allows.

Entry Fee is just $5.  Two $50 Grants will be awarded.  Each artist receives a complimentary drink ticket.

That's the gist of it.  Linked is the full details.

Hope to have your participation!

Milwaukee Annual Graphic Design Competition

From: Milwaukee Riverkeeper <Milwaukee_Riverkeeper@mail.vresp.com>

Annual Graphic Design Competition Kicks Off!
Win and See Your Design on More than 4,000 T-shirts!

Milwaukee Riverkeeper needs talented artists to design a graphic for our 22nd Annual Spring River Cleanup! Our Annual Spring River Cleanup is one of the largest cleanups in Wisconsin and takes place throughout the entire Milwaukee River Basin, so it calls for top-notch artwork!

We will feature the winning artwork on 4,000 volunteer t-shirts as well as our posters, postcards, and social media. Because every volunteer receives a free t-shirt, thousands of people will wear your artwork for years to come. In addition, we will award a $100 prize for the winning design. Enter our design competition to gain recognition for your art while helping us achieve swimmable, fishable rivers for future generations!

We value artists’ creative efforts so we will run our contest following the guidelines for ethical art competitions published by the Graphic Artist’s Guild to the best of our ability. If your design does not win, you will retain all rights to your artwork.

Jeanne Nikolai Olivieri art exhibit at the Pfister!

Dear Friends,

I am very excited to have a solo exhibition at the Pfister Pop-up Gallery from February 5 to March 4! The show features my paintings, including new works created for this exhibition, and an interactive installation called Think Inside the Box©

There will be an artist reception at the gallery on February 16 from 5:30 to 8:30. Please join me for the evening. Check out the paintings and take part in the installation activity!

Think Inside the Box© is composed of three distinct, furnished box environments; safe places where participants can tangibly express their thoughts and creative ideas without fear of judgment. Visitors are encouraged to sketch, write, dream, and communicate their secret selves inside the Box. Sketching/writing materials will be provided. Visitors' anonymous contributions will become part of the installation. For more info, click on:
