Judy Grochowski Impressions Exhibit 1/1-3/31/18

From: Judy Grochowski <jgrochowski@wi.rr.com>

 Hi everyone,
I hope you are enjoying the holiday season, as well as the promise of the new year!
I would like to invite you to check out my latest solo show at Spectrum Salon Gallery, in downtown Milwaukee.
“Impressions”, my exhibit of new (and past) work will be on display from January 1st - March 31, 2018.  The exhibit will be part of Gallery Night January 19 (5-8 pm) and Gallery Day on January 20 (1-3 pm).
Wisconsin weather being what it is (ha!), perhaps I won’t see you on Gallery Night or Day, though I plan to be there and hope you can stop in, either then, or sometime during the time it will be up.
Those of you at a distance, or just unable to make it this time around, I wanted you to be up to speed on my doings; know I appreciate you sending positive thoughts for this show!
By the way, the announcement is best viewed on a computer screen.
Thank you all for your love & support-it means the world to me!
Sincerely,
Judy

WPS Figure Drawing

Note: WPS is not Milwaukee Sketch Club. It is run by Lorin Wiley. Please contact him at his email address.

From: "Willey, Lorin" Lorin.Willey@harley-davidson.com

Hi Folks,
Please share this information with anyone that you think might want to attend the WPS Open Figure Drawing sessions on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month.
The stage is in the middle of the studio.
Light can be controlled from two sides from the fluorescent banks in the ceiling.
I sometimes use a spot, but it isn’t necessary. The light in the studio is good.
The model being cold is a problem because the studio is large and airy.
I will turn up the heat in the room to 73 degrees to help so don’t dress warm.
Bring your own drawing board or easel, and your own materials.
There are enough chairs.  The way the stage is set you can move all around the model to get the vantage point you prefer.
The WPS studio is optimum for this.
The poses are typically timed as follows:
6pm start
45 minutes = (10) 1 minute poses / (2) 10 minute poses / (1) 15 minute pose
Break 15 minutes
7pm (back to it)
45 minutes = (2) 22 minute poses
Break 15 minutes
8pm (back to it)
  1. 30 minute pose
8:30pm end of session.
I am the studio “coach” so I will be calling the times and the breaks and there will be moments that I will sense the mood of the group and change up the lengths or types of poses. There may be an occasional 1 hour pose, or one that may go all night. I may also do portraits at some point that would go the whole session. I’m leaving this open. The times I gave above would be typical in a “normal” session. I will be running these as I do in the WPS teaching sessions, but without the “teaching”. I am renting the room and paying the models so the fees will be collected by Debra, just as in a class.
I expect the artists to pay in cash. I do not want to cash checks to pay the model. If there are not 5 artists (figure), or 4 artists (portrait) the overage will be split evenly by the artists attending. I pay figure models $50, and portrait models $40. The base fee for each night is $10 cash per artist. This is pay as you go, just as in my classes.
Photography is typically allowed unless the model indicates otherwise. Obviously these photos are for class use only and are not to be published or put on the internet. (I was asked by the models to specify this)
Because these are open sessions any medium is allowed. I am not instructing, of course, so I will be drawing or painting, just like everyone else. I will not be doing any critiquing or commenting on anyone’s work unless it comes up in normal conversation as in any other open studio session.
I hope this response answers most of your questions.
Cheers, 😊

Schlitz Audubon's Ash to Art Call - Registration due 1/1/18

Hey! I just got this email today and thought of you! Otherwise, if you know of anyone else that would like to do something like this, feel free to share :D

Dear Staff,

This is a copy of an email that went out to our preschool families recently. The Preschool Parent Committee requested that I forward it onto all of you, in case there are artists on our staff, or among your circle of friends, who might like to take part:

You are invited to participate in our Ash to Art fundraiser! Not an artist? Help the preschool by sharing this message to artists that may be interested.

Schlitz Audubon Nature Preschool is once again holding a special event this spring, called Ash to Art. Ash to Art is both a fundraiser and an opportunity to teach about invasive species - in this case, the Emerald Ash Borer. Schlitz Audubon Nature Center staff have already begun removing ash trees from the property that are diseased, dying, and will be falling in the next few years. Some of these trees are being cut into “cookies” - round cross cuts that are typically 6" in diameter, and roughly 1.5” thick. These cookies will be handed out to  interested artists like you or your friends. Participants make their cookie, from an ash tree, into art. We auction off the artwork, and thereby make money for our favorite school.

Mark Your Calendars! (all dates 2018)
Jan 1 - Artist Registration due
Feb 1 - Tree cookies ready to be picked up from Schlitz Audubon Nature Center (SANC)
Apr 7 - Tree cookie art due back to SANC along with Art Title, Artist Biography, and Photo Release
Apr 21, 11:00am - 2:00pm - Ash to Art silent auction

Please complete this form to reserve a tree cookie:

You or your artist friend will be responsible for picking up a tree cookie when they're ready and returning the art to the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center.

Please feel free to forward this email to other artists. We can't wait to see your imagination give new life to our trees!

Thank you,
Nancy Urbani

Milwaukee Sketch Club at Corner Bakery Square in Wauwatosa 11/17/17

A nice lady sitting at a table next to us took our picture.

Terry is going to do a watercolor demo at A/C art club on April 2, 2018

We were thinking of meeting at the New Berlin Library next week at 9am on 11/30/17 Friday but Gary saw a quiet sign there. So maybe we should go someplace else where we can be our noisy, laughing, talking group. Perhaps we should return to the Corner Bakery Square?

Honor Flight ArtShow 2017

See
http://www.starsandstripeshonorflight.org/traveling-art-show/

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.

We also think it can be worth a thousand Thanks.

Since our first flight in November of 2008, Stars and Stripes Honor Flight has taken thousands of WWII veterans and guardians on a one day trip to Washington D.C. Each trip producing countless stories, smiles, tears and cheers. We decided the best way to tell the Honor Flight story is to let you walk the chronology of an Honor Flight trip. We have curated our best, most moving images (about 120 of them!) into this traveling art show. For the rest of the year, this collection will be on display at locations throughout southeast Wisconsin. We hope you will find a location near you and take some time to experience the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight journey.  If you are interested in hosting the art show please fill out the web form on the Invite Us To An Event page.
