Fast & Furious Demo 2/6/16 at Richeson

Figures & Faces, Reception/ Live Demonstration Event

February 6th, 2016
2:30p-5:30p Live Demonstration Event
5:30p-7:00p Wine and Art Reception

Can quick painting studies become finished works of art?

Absolutely, and this event/ exhibition is a perfect demonstration of how professional artists are doing just that. You are invited to the Fast & Furious Reception and Live Painting Demonstration event hosted by Richeson School of Art & Gallery. Eight top Wisconsin "Alla Prima" portrait artists will be demonstrating painting from a live, clothed model. Immerse yourself in art in the company of other art enthusiasts!

This evening of art is not to be missed. Enjoy a glass of wine while exploring the exhibition and engaging artists in conversation! The finished pieces from the demonstration will be on display or come early and watch them work.
Light food and drinks will be provided.
Be amazed watching the different artists interpret the same subject, 8 artists with 8 different style.

Creating art is learning to see!
Come see what artists see.

This is your chance to engage artists in discussions about the art making process and really get first hand insight into what motivates and drives these artists!

In process painting images by D. Palecek.

The demonstration begins at 2:30 and you can join us at any time.
Stay for an hour or for the whole event! This is your opportunity to wander the studio and watch each artist at work. Directly following the demonstration will be the exhibit reception from 5:30p-7:00p, where guests can continue to interact with the artists!

Milwaukee Sketch Club at Brookfield Square food court 1/25/16

A great place to meet. Interesting architecture. Lots of people, yet not crowded. Plenty of room for all 7 of us. Coffee from Subway surprisingly good and only 79 cents!

Brookfield Square was nice because it had a really big table that we could sit around and the fireplace was real cool too. Both Mayfair and Brookfield Malls have been good sketching experiences.

We also looked at some books:
  • The Drawing club of improbable dreams by Cat Bennett, isbn:978-1-84409-675-6
  • Sketch City, Tips and Inspiration for Drawing on Location by Gingko Press, isbn:978-1-58423-592-7
  • Artists Unframed by Merry A. Foresta, isbn:978-1-61689-295-1
We're thinking of meeting next week, on Friday, 2/5/16, about 9am at Corner Bakery Cafe 11500 W. Burleigh St. #102, Wauwatosa, WI 53222 (On the north side of Burleigh between the expressway Hwy 43 and Hwy 100.)

Shelby Keefe updates

From: "Shelby Keefe Fine Art" <shelbykeefe@tds.net>

Greetings Friends!

Happy New Year!! BIG CHANGES are in store for me in 2016 and that means moving my studio to a new condo and eventually selling my house and moving into my studio!
After 16 years of having a studio and gallery outside the home, I have chosen to "downsize" my studio and home, making my way toward a simpler life with a smaller "footprint" allowing me to travel more without the worries of a yard, shoveling and maintaining a 3 BR family home! Now that the kids are all grown up, such a big house isn't necessary and I look forward to spreading my wings and painting all over the globe! Even as I write this, (besides packing and moving) I am getting ready to go to CUBA to paint with a group of artists! Stay tuned to see paintings depicting old cars and historic buildings from a place unspoiled and frozen in time from the 1950s!
So all of this news brings me to my next and LAST Studio Sale at my current space in the Third Ward! I will be practically giving away paintings (most half price or more) to enable me to move to smaller digs! If you took advantage of my sale 3 years ago when I moved from the Hide House to the Third Ward, you got some great deals. But THIS time, I'm offering a lot more paintings at half price, some of my best paintings done as recently as 2015! It's a tough decision to do that, but after this event, I will be raising my prices to keep in line with my peers out there on the national scene and depending on galleries to sell my work. SO if you've been waiting to buy one of my paintings, this is your best opportunity to buy one for less money than they will ever be offered again. DON'T wait! (Geez, I sound like a used car salesman...SORRY!!)
Anyway, check out my flyer below for details!
ALSO, go to my website to look at available paintings because MOST of those will be half price! You can expect to see them hanging on the walls at the Urban Sanctuary ready for the picking!

Turtle Ridge hosts January Art Camp

https://doorcountypulse.com/turtle-ridge-hosts-january-art-camp/

After four decades of handcrafting exquisite leather bags for customers, Turtle Ridge Gallery owner Mary Ellen Sisulak is giving the public a chance to put their own mark on one of the gallery’s favorite bag designs during its first Art Camp, Jan. 15-17 and 22-24.

The camp, under the direction of Sisulak and Asta Zukauskiene, will lead participants through a step-by-step process of creating a Turtle Ridge handbag. Participants will be limited only by the structure of the bag but when it comes to the look, they are limited only by their imagination.
“We give them all kinds of ideas for the flaps on the bags and they can choose and create their own thing,” Sisulak said. “This bag is called the Geo and it’s for sale in our shop but I’m hoping everybody will do it differently because I think it will be more interesting for them.”
A variety of leather and decorative embellishments, along with the studio’s tools, will be available for the workshop.
“We have an embossed design that they can put on the front, if they want they can go home and paint it too, and then we have a stone design with a semi-precious stone and inlay,” Sisulak said.
It is open to all skill levels with Sisulak and Zukauskiene willing to fill in when necessary in the creation process.

“We have people signed up with varying degrees of creativity and skill levels so we’re not quite sure what will happen but we’re pretty sure it will be fun,” Sisulak said.
“It’s really nice to share this with people,” she added. “Maybe they’ll enjoy it and maybe we’re passing along some skills that they can use in other things too.”

The camp begins with a Friday night orientation and refreshments. Participants choose between the morning or afternoon session (three hours each) for Saturday and Sunday. The class cost is $300. For more information, visit TurtleRidgeGallery.com, email TurtleRidge@gmail.com or call 920.854.4839.

There is a typo in the catalog regarding the price of my landscape classes.   All of my classes are the same price, Milwaukee residents $23.00,  Non residents $34.50.  The price has been changed online but there is nothing that can be done about the printed catalog.

Bay View Art in the Park Volunteers

From: Brian Breider <bvartinthepark@gmail.com>
Date: November 21, 2015 11:01:18 AM CST

Dear Friends,
As many of you know due to the construction planned  next year near Zillman Park, we are seeking  a new location to hold Bay View Art in the Park. We are very excited to announce that we have been working with the county parks to host Bay View Art in the Park at Humboldt Park near the Pavilion.
We think this is a wonderful opportunity and that the location change may very much benefit our art festival.  Humboldt already has high traffic through the summer and St. Francis Brewery has an outdoor beer garden that we have plans to partner with.

As the event for the last two years has been completely run by myself and Spring, we realize that the two of us alone need help to make the festival a success.  We still love the idea of bringing art to bay view on a weekly basis and hope to make the festival  into an event the city is truly proud of.  But we need your need help to do that.
To ensure the event will thrive we need two core volunteers to get involved.  We are seeking folks that are interested  in the long term idea of bringing  a family friendly art festival to Bay View. Once the volunteers are selected we will meet to discuss roles and responsibilities.
Two keys areas that we need help in:
1. Reaching out to sponsors and non-profits groups.  This will involve phone  and email communications.
2.  Event day help. To take a handful of events and run it on days we can't be there.  This will also require an effort of social media advertising of the event on those days.
If you are interested or want more information please contact me with any questions.
Thank you so much,
Brian Breider

40 years of Wisconsin Churches 12/18/15 - 1/6/16

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: Jeanne Nikolai Olivieri <jnoart@gmail.com>
Date: Mon, Dec 14, 2015 at 12:36 PM

Dear Friends,

On Friday this week from 5-8:00 pm my studio will feature 40 years of  of Wisconsin churches drawn by Wisconsin artist Marian Nikolai. Each year Marian, with the help of her husband John, searches for a church to sketch for her Wisconsin Church series. She uses pencil, pen and ink to create beautiful renderings of the chosen church. The drawings have been used each year for Marian and John's holiday card. This is the first time the original drawings will be on view together. This year's drawing will debut at the show! Marian will be at the opening to greet you and to talk about her work.

Marian's past work includes paintings using acrylics, watercolor, oil and mixed media. She has participated in many juried shows in Wisconsin. Her family honors her for giving us the gift of her art, and for showing us the joy of creating.

I hope you will join me for a celebration of Marian's art! Please feel free to forward this on to others.

Also open by appointment. The show will be up until January 6.
