Greetings, time for me to start scheduling, our 1st session is day after Labor Day and a critique which I'm not sure who, or perhaps just us critiquing ourselves.
Anyway, last weekend in beautiful downtown Glencoe,Illinois, Joyce and I won art award ribbons, Joyce also sold paintings I, alas sold nada.
Any wannabe portrait or nude models that you know of please let me know. See you all.

Also, the Milwaukee Art League is planning a Plein Air Event and Sale at Boerner on September 12 and 13th. Mary Prince is the contact. Entry is free for Plein Air Artist.

4th Annual New Berlin Painting Competition & Sale
Prospectus – Main Event
September 9 -13 2015
Plein Air (i.e. open air) paintings are executed outdoors from real life,
As opposed to from photographs in a studio.
Both painter and subject must be outdoors, and photographs are not used.
1. Painting Area-An
artist may paint any subject or scene outdoors he/she chooses, as long
as the location address is within the city limits of New Berlin (to the
North, south side of Greenfield Ave, to the east, west side of 124th
Street, to the south, College Ave & Janesville Road, to the west,
Springdale Road.
2. Painting Time Period – Each work of art must be started and completed “en plein air” from
Wednesday, September 9th– Sunday, September 13th
3. Required Check-in – Prior to any work being done. (No Exceptions)
Wednesday, September 9th from noon – 7 p.m.
Holiday Inn Express, Beloit & Moorland Roads, New Berlin
Thursday, September 10th from 8 a.m. –noon & 6 – 7:30 p.m.
Outside Holiday Inn Express, Beloit & Moorland Roads, New Berlin
Friday, September 11th from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Outside Holiday Inn Express, Beloit & Moorland Roads, New Berlin
4. Material Requirements
- Acceptable mediums: oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels and gouache
- Maximum size of canvas, paper or board (in inches): unframed 16 x 20 and framed 24 x 28.
- All materials must be stamped at the registration table prior to any work being done. An unlimited number of materials may be stamped.
5. Submission – Saturday, September 12th from noon– 3 p.m. deliver
Paintings to Historic Society Museum (Fire House), 19765 W National Ave.
- Each artist may submit two (2) finished paintings for the competition and silent auction.
- Each finished painting submitted should be signed on the front.
- A Plein Air stamp provided at registration must be visible on the back of each painting.
- All paintings must be appropriately framed, mounted and securely wired for hanging.
We reserve
the right to refuse any painting improperly framed or wired – i.e. no
unframed wrapped canvases, stained mats, alligator hangers, etc.
6. Artwork pricing – Artwork will be sold on Sunday, September 13th, ( noon to 4 p.m.) by silent auction at the New Berlin Historical site, and on Saturday, October 10th at the New Berlin Community Center (10 a.m. – 7 p.m.) at the fixed selling price.
The artist will select three prices for each painting submitted:
- Starting Bid Amount: Minimum acceptable price, posted on the silent auction bid sheet.
- Fixed Selling Price: Retail value of the painting, cannot be lower than the starting bid amount.
- Buy it Now Price – Premium price posted on the bid sheet, which cannot be lower than the fixed selling price. Allows collectors to purchase paintings on Sunday before the close of the auction.
For Example: Starting Bid Amount Minimum “Buy it Now
If under $199 Starting Bid amount plus $50 or more
If $200 - $300 Starting Bid amount plus $75 or more
7. Jurying – Artwork will be judged by up to three (3) jurors the afternoon of Saturday, Sept 12th at the Weston Barn, approximately 197th and W National Ave.
8. Exhibit and Sale – Paintings will be on exhibit and for sale by silent auction on, September 12th from noon to 4pm
at the New Berlin Historical site. Unsold art artwork will remain on
sale at the Hickory Grove Community Center ( Sunnyslope & Cleveland
Avenues) by appointment, or from 10:00 am until 7 pm at the “fixed price” on Saturday October 10th at the New Berlin Community Center (149th
Street & Cleveland Ave), which will include an artist reception.
Paintings from previous years can also be made available for sale, but
must be priced.
9. Painting Replacements –
Paintings that are purchased on Sunday, September 13th may be replaced
with paintings of the same size and category that adhere to the
submission requirements outlined in the pertinent prospectus. The artist
will be responsible to know whether their paintings were purchased.
Replacement and/or additional paintings will be accepted on Saturday October 10th from 7:30 – 10 am at the New Berlin Community Center.
10. Awards –The Silent Auction will be Sunday, September 13h,
The Best of Show award is a purchase award of $1400.00 cash. This work
of art will become part of a private collection. The First Place Award
will be $800, the Second Place award will be $600, the Third Place Award
will be $400, and there will be three additional honorary mentioned
awards of $100 each. There will also be a $50 award for Artist Choice,
Peoples Choice and Jurors Choice.
Registered artists may vote for an Artist’s Choice Award winner. Ballots will be available at painting submission Saturday, September 12h from 1 - 3 p.m.
The general public will be invited to vote for a People’s Choice Award
winner. Each juror will also have the option of selecting one painting
to receive a Juror’s Recognition Award. An artist will be eligible to
win only one cash award in each event.
11. Painting pick-up – Unsold paintings must be picked up Monday, October 19th from 4:00 -5:00 p.m. Artists will be charged $25/day to retrieve abandoned artwork after October 19th unless other arrangements are agreed upon.
12. Proceeds from Painting Sales –
Each artist will contribute 35% of the proceeds to the Prospect Lions
Charities New Berlin, and the Prospect Lions Charities will mail a check
to the artist for 65% of the proceeds by October 31st.
13.
The New Berlin Special Events committee, Prospect Lions Club and City
of New Berlin assume no responsible for insurance of his/her artwork. We
will make our best effort to assure the security of the artwork once it
is at the judging site.
14. Overnight Stays can be accommodated at the Holiday Inn Express, 15451 W Beloit Road, New Berlin 53151, phone 262-787-0700 at
special discounted rates. Just mention “Plein Air Painting” at the
registration desk. The rate will be $79/night plus tax for a room with
two beds. Amenities include, breakfast and swimming pool. The breakfast
is superior!
