Bonnie planning to Sketch at Jazz Gallery Tuesday evening

from: bonitaartwork
@yahoo.com

Hi,

Every Tuesday evening from 7-9pm, the Jazz Gallery sponsors an open Jam session for musicians. Artists are encouraged to come and sketch and usually a number of artists do so.

This past winter, Mike, Art, Al, Roger, Carol and I spent the evening sketching at the JG when MSC was closed due to a program at the church.

Jazz Gallery address:  926 East Center Street, Milwaukee. [It's in the Riverwest area on the eastside of Milwaukee]

If anyone wants more info, they can call me at: 414.962.0777 or email me at bonitaartwork@yahoo.com.

I was thinking of sketching there this Tuesday, if anyone wants to join me.

Al is planning to plein air Tuesday evening at Grant Park

from: alminzlaff

Tue June 2 6:30pm
Grant Park South Milwaukee golf clubhouse
Usually stay til 8 or 8:30

Let me know if you plan to meet.
Hope it's not cold.

By the way, Roger is no longer able to talk.
They took some biopsies last week and should have results later in week.
Seems he has a lot of scar tissue from radiation.
They might close the hole in his next so he could possibly swallow liquids.
He might be with me just so y'all know.

Upcoming Workshops with Terry Stanley

from:
Terry Stanley
info@terrystanley.com

I recently was able to move from my home studio to a new space at 100 S. Broadway in DePere, WI and I'm really enjoying the productivity that's resulting from being able to focus on the work!

Another benefit is that I realized my work has undergone something of an epiphany over the last couple of years. I can see a clear evolution, (which is good thing as an artist), but when the change is fairly radical, it can be a detriment to gallery sales and commissions. Therefore, I have called back most of my earlier pieces that are still out in various galleries and I'm striving to create a new body of work that is cohesive and, I hope, exciting to my collectors and peers. Some of the paintings I mentioned will be available at special prices at the DePere Art Walk next week! More info below...

While I'm producing this new work, I am also teaching workshops nearby. Information on those is below.  There are more in the works for late 2015 and 2016 that will have me traveling quite a bit! It's always fun to experience new venues and new students. More on those in the next newsletter.

If you're in the Green Bay area, DePere hosts an Art Walk several times each summer! This year they run from 5pm-8pm on May 29 (next Friday!), June 12 & 26, July 17 & 31 and August 14. Artists are hosted in various businesses in DePere and I will participate as a business owner/artist. My guest artist will be Shannon Piette, who does glass & clay sculpture as well as some cool pen-and-ink work. Stop in to see us at 100 S Broadway Suite 65!

There's a new Facebook page for my artist peers and collectors as well. Please click https://www.facebook.com/ArtByTerryStanley and Like the page. Sometime this summer I will pick a random FB winner for a small painting!

I also have two workshops coming up soon at Richeson School of Art & Gallery in Kimberly, WI. Full info is on the Richeson website and you can register online or call the art school at 920-738-0744 to register by phone.

Basic Color Theory/Color Mixing  May 30
Learn or review basic color theory and prepare a color mixing chart for a basic palette of six colors plus white. Materials are included for this short half-day course! Just a couple of spots left!

Paint Your Pet  June 12-13
By popular request! Since 2009, I've done almost 700 pet portraits for clients all over the world (thank you Internet!). Many of my students have asked for a short course on how I do it. Day one will consist of the basics: How to convey textures, paint realistic eyes, layering, and how to capture personality.  Day two will concentrate on painting a 9x12 portrait of your own pet from a reference photo you supply. Work in oils or acrylics.

Garden Nocturnes:
Painting by Moonlight
Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum
July 28-30  7pm-11pm
I'm delighted to announce a new, very different kind of workshop at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wausau, WI.  We will have special access to the amazing sculpture gardens at the Woodson and paint "en plain air" by the light of the almost-full moon and the gardens' landscape lighting. (We even have covered areas in the gardens in case of inclement weather).Work in oils, acrylics, watercolor or pastels. This painting of bronze "Rosetta" in the gardens is an example of the subject matter we'll work with.  More info is online HERE. Contact 715-845-7010 to register.

Is your organization seeking an exhibit juror or workshop instructor? Contact me by email aInfo@TerryStanley.com or call 920-309-1270.

Commissions are being accepted for portraits of people or pets and custom artwork for home or business. Contact me for pricing and availability!

WPA Schauer Award Winners

from:
Chris behrs <cbehrs@att.net>

WPA membership,

I am writing to remind you that our May membership meeting is coming up this Wednesday, May 13 at West Allis City Hall, 7525 W Greenfield Ave. We will be featuring a talk by Lorin Wiley titled, “How Color and Value Support Dynamic Composition.” Lorin encourages members to bring examples of your work. While this is not a critique Lorin plans to use members work as examples during his presentation, so please feel free to bring work to share.
Our exhibit at the Schauer in Hartford was another strong showing of members work. Thank you to all who planned and participated in this show. I would also like to extend my apologies for not announcing the award winners for this exhibit. I appreciate all who came to the reception and were part of the festivities. Given the distance and other commitments not everyone can always make the openings. Because of this and in the interest of promoting our group I am responsible for contacting and congratulating winners as well as posting this information on the blog site. I failed to get this done for this exhibit. I will be sure to make this responsibility a priority in the future.

Schauer award winners:
Best of Show-Chris Behrs
1st place- Carol Chapman
2nd place- Judy Grochowski
3rd place- Rita Burnap

Honorable Mention:
   Sheryl Zirbes
           Marcia Gorra-Patek
           Debbie Callahan

Our next exhibit, scheduled for this October, is at the Cedarburg Cultural Center. We have space to show 85-90 paintings. This is a great opportunity for our members and is great exposure for our group, however, there is also cause for concern. In past exhibitions we have struggled to have even 40 paintings to exhibit. Our exhibit committee is confident we can meet the goal of 85-90 paintings and they will be discussing ideas at our meeting to address this.
I would encourage all members to consider entering at least one painting, even if you have not shown before. If everyone submits one painting we would be halfway to our goal; two paintings each and we would reach it. The board is available to assist members in any way we can to help you take advantage of this opportunity. Details will be given at the meeting, through e-mail correspondence, and on our blogsite.
As always, please feel free to contact me and express your ideas and concerns. See you at the meeting.

Your president,
Chris Behrs

WPS Scholarships Offered

From:        "Willey, Lorin" <Lorin.Willey@harley-davidson.com>

Date:        05/06/2015 03:12 PM
Subject:        WPS_SCHOLARSHIPS OFFERED!!!

Hi Folks,

I am announcing an exciting new initiative within the Wisconsin Painters’ Studio.

As of today, I am offering Wisconsin Painters’ Studio Scholarships! Let anyone you think might be interested know about this. Contact your groups, contact your artistic friends. Time is running out for the first one, so get the news out!

5pm, Wednesday, May 27th deadline!!!

I am introducing scholarships into the WPS so that artists young and old, with a variety of experience, can discover what the fine repertoire of painters within the current WPS studio, and those that have gone before; have already discovered; that this is not your average art instruction venue. My art development techniques are based strongly in those of the great artist and teacher Robert Henri (see “The Art Spirit”). I am here for you, and your own personal, and very individual artistic development; totally free of the entrapment of the stylistic teachers that are the primary form of private art instruction today; those teachers that would have you paint like them, and not, like you. At the WPS you will discover the “3-Cs” of Creativity, Craftsmanship, and Clarity of Intent. Art is Visual Language; and that language can be consistently discovered, learned, and applied to your own personal vision.

Starting on Thursday, June 4th, the 1st WPS Scholarship will consist of 4 Completely FREE Consecutive Sessions, Plus an Additional 4 Consecutive Discounted Sessions.  A 2 Month $180 VALUE!

The selected candidate must be able to attend consecutively. If a session is missed, that session is forfeited and is not negotiable into the future. After Thursday, June 25th, if the selected candidate should decide to continue with the WPS, their rate for the next 4 consecutive sessions would be only $25 per session. Again, if a session is missed that session is forfeited and is not negotiable into the future. The candidate is not required to attend any of these 4 sessions. After Thursday, July 23rd, should the scholarship participant decide to continue with the WPS, they would participate at the regular rate of $35 per session and they would become part of the WPS Artist Roster.

The Selected Scholarship Participant starts on:

Thursday, June 4th.  Cost: FREE
Thursday, June 11th. Cost: FREE
Thursday, June 18th. Cost: FREE
Thursday, June 25th. Cost: FREE

If the participant should decide to continue, the following 4 consecutive Thursday sessions would be available at a cost to the participant artist of only $25 each. Note: After Thursday, June 25th, the scholarship participant is not required to attend any further sessions. However, if the participant should decide to attend 1 or more of the sessions within the time frame of the next 4 consecutive Thursdays, the cost would be only $25 each.

Thursday, July 2nd. Cost $25
Thursday, July 9th. Cost $25
Thursday, July 16th. Cost $25
Thursday, July 23rd. Cost $25

Requirements for Participation:

1.)    Participant must be 18yrs, or older.
2.)    All experience levels are welcome. I am looking for talented creators of art, and that is visible at all levels.
3.)    The participant cannot be a current or previous member of WPS.
4.)    Chosen candidates will be selected, by me, through a submission of on-line images only.
5.)    6 jpeg images of your work, of good resolution and high quality, no larger than 1MB each, should be sent to me at: lorin.willey@harley-davidson.com
6.)    Along with these images should be the candidates; Age (specific birth date not required, this information will not be shared with anyone, for legal purposes only), Name, Street Address, Email Address, and Telephone.
7.)    Candidate should provide a brief statement of their experience and art background, along with preferred medium. Note: All 2 dimensional mediums are accepted and applicable, except printmaking. Wisconsin Painters’ Studio sessions are not restricted to a single medium.
8.)    The deadline for submissions for this 1st Scholarship is 5pm Wednesday, May 27th.

These WPS scholarships are being offered to one candidate at a time only. I will inform the selected candidate by Friday, May 29th, so that they can begin on the following Thursday, June 4th.

Scholarship participant must bring their own equipment and supplies.

WPS Sessions run from 6pm to 8:30pm every Thursday at the Wisconsin Painters’ Studio located at 11801 Silver Spring Drive, Suite 5445, Milwaukee, WI.

Any questions concerning this scholarship, and or requirements can be directed to:
Lorin Willey   tel:    414-343-8359    e-mail:      lorin.willey@harley-davidson.com

Keep your eyes open for future announcements, as I am planning on offering 3 of these scholarships a year.

The event will be held at a lovely farmette on the outskirts of Burlington. It is a beautiful setting, including a barn and several interesting out buildings.
As we are a newly created foundation we are asking that you might be so kind to donate your new creation to our silent auction. If donating a piece is not possible we could work out other arrangements that are satisfactory to you.

Artist wanted that is solid with architectural sketches

from: SSawyer@delawarenorth.com

Good morning.

Please allow me to introduce ourselves.  We are Delaware North Sportservice, and provide all of the food and beverage here at Miller Park. Jamie Hodgson is the General Manager here, and he and I are working on some fun new concepts.  As we continue to make strides to improve fan experience here at the ball park, we find ourselves looking at renovating and building-out some different areas of the stadium.

This is where we are hoping a group like yours might be helpful, and hopefully we can help out one of your members as well.  What we are hoping to do is partner with a local sketch artist that can help put our ideas to paper, and draw up a few theoretical areas within the facility.

If you feel someone in your group is solid with architectural sketches, and would like to be a part of our project, we would love to work with them, and hopefully make it worth their while.   If we are looking in the wrong area, any help you can provide to link us with the right people is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time and efforts, we look forward to hopefully working with you!

WPS DEMO THURSDAY MAY 14th and SCHOLARSHIP!!!

From: "Willey, Lorin" <Lorin.Willey@harley-davidson.com>

Hi Folks,

I am going to be doing another “Elements of Landscape Painting” demonstration during this Thursday’s, May 14th , session at the WPS studio.
Title:
Clouds Matter. How to Paint Skies as an Integral Part of Your Composition.
This demonstration will start promptly at 7pm and end promptly at 7:30pm.

Next week Thursday’s, May 21st, “Elements of Landscape Painting” demonstration at the WPS studio will be:
Title:
Water. Seeing It For What It Is. Consider 3 Major Influences That Determine Its Color, Consider the Dynamics of It’s Motion, Then Paint It.
This demonstration will start promptly at 7pm and end promptly at 7:30pm.

Look for future “Elements of Landscape Painting” demonstrations in up-coming Spring and Summer WPS Sessions.

On another note; please get the information out about the new WPS Scholarship Awards. I will be offering these 3 times per year. So entrants who submit applications will go into a data base for future reference. So if a candidate is not selected first time around, they may be selected later. I’ve enclosed a printable pdf of the WPS Scholarship announcement with this email. Share this with your email lists, especially your ARTIST GROUP lists. Many of these people have wanted to check out the WPS through my numerous critiques and talks, but for financial or other reasons have held back. This is their opportunity to be introduced to the Wisconsin Painters’ Studio, at no cost, for an entire month. A ($140 Scholarship)! And if they choose, for an additional 4 sessions at a discount rate. A total of 8 Sessions with the WPS!

Get the news out! It’s a great opportunity for any artist who wants to take their skills to the next level! ….and, it’s on me! J

Yours in Paint,

Lorin
