Milwaukee Sketch Club at Ben Hunt Cabin, Hales Corners, Tuesday evening, 6/23/15

About 8 of us came. It was a pleasant evening and not too many bugs. The Ben Hunt Cabin and prairie consists of native grasses and wildflowers. Luckily the area around the cabin and the path is mowed.

Last week 2 people went to Sail Loft near Lake Shore Park, and drew people while drinking purchased beverages and eating appetizers. We've scheduled Sail Loft/Lake Shore Park 3 times now so it is time to go to another location. Although actually it's still a neat place to go but we don't want to get bored going to the same old places.
It appears that no one has been going Wednesday mornings. This upcoming Thursday probably no one is going as most of that crew is participating in the Cedarburg Plein Air which lasts until June 28. I haven't heard if anyone is going out on Saturdays or not.
The health department side of Hales Corners library is accessed via the lower parking lot like the Ben Hunt Cabin. Everybody was friendly and curious. Wisconsin folks are generally nice, friendly, curious, and polite.

Milwaukee Sketch Club at Idle Isle Park, Thursday morning, 6/18/15

Last week most people were out at Cedarburg. However 2 of us did show up at Idle Isle Thursday morning in Muskego. Water, trees, boats, fishermen, beach, scenic even though weather was mostly cloudy. Nice pavilion. Lots of picnic tables. Not too many people due to cloudy weather. No biting bugs yet.

Al told me he was the only artist that showed up. Probably just bad luck that they planned their plein air during Cedarburg's plein air event.

Cedarburg Plein air 6/17-6/28 and Glympse Ap

from: WIPAPA mricl4hlth@aol.gmail.com via mail76.atl11.rsgsv.net

Okay...so you drive to say, Cedarburg to catch some artists painting. Maybe you're an artist interested in seeing what the buzz is all about with this "Plein Air" thing. Or maybe you're bringing your kids to grow their appreciation of art or feed a budding talent. Or just maybe your a savvy collector of plein air work and you want to see the process and meet the artists.

You could drive around town and you will most likely see some artists. But you know there are 150 artists painting for 10 days and you want to see more. Or you are looking for one particular artist whose work you follow.

Well we have been working on a way to connect the artists with the people looking for them and are ready to beta test it this year. We have found a free tool/app for smartphones called Glympse and we have a number of artists who are willing to share their painting locations using this tool during Cedarburg this year.

How to use GLYMPSE?

Instructions for ART Lovers:

On your phone search for WIPAPA.blogspot.comThis is the Wisconsin Plein Air Painters Association website. On my phone I need to scroll all the way to the bottom and hit the button that says "view web version". At the top right you will find a map that says Glympse

You will see little posts where artists are. If it says "expired" it simply means they have moved from there and have not yet found a new location....or maybe they are taking a break! It's that easy!

Instructions for ARTISTS:

Go to the app store for your phone...search for Glympse and download it...it's free! Please do this well before the event and play with it a bit to make sure you know how to do it!

When you have found a place to paint then
1. Go to the Glympse app on your phone
2. Hit share location.
3.Then search for the group !WIPAPA (you must enter the ! first) and join it.
4.Then select a time amount up to 4 hours that you will be there.
5. Hit share. You will show up on the map on the WIPAPA blog. After the time you selected has lapsed your flag says "expired". If you wish to disappear from the map altogether then exit the app.

How fun is that? Please join us and help us connect artists and art lovers!!!

Milwaukee Sketch Club at McCarty Park 6/11/15

This week is Cedarburgs Plein Air event http://www.pleinaircedarburg.blogspot.com/ starting 6/17/15 and quite a few members will be painting there. There's an ap called Glympse which may help you catch a glimpse of some plein air painters in this event.

For those who aren't painting at Cedarburg, this week our guide suggests the following
  • Tues Eve/Wed Morn: Lake Shore Park near 649 East Erie St.
  • Thurs Morn: Idle Isle Park W182S666 Hardtek Dr in Muskego
  • Sat: Lions Gorge 511 High Bluff Dr in Grafton - might be some Cedarburg plein air painters there?

Here's some pictures from the Thursday morning crew.

Last week we were planning to go to downtown Waukesha but it was supposed to rain real heavy in the morning so we switched to McCarty Park about 80th st and Arthur Ave in West Allis,
http://county.milwaukee.gov/McCartyPavilion23008.htm where we could hang out under the overhang of the pavilion where it was dry. Pretty nice scenery from there too. Nice cloudy, misty, rainy day which towards the end of the morning started to get sunny. Lot of activity. Very noisy frogs.

You can just show up to Just 4 Ewe Studio 8615 S. Market Place, Oak Creek. 10-3:30 (judging)

Come to the shop, register $10.00 and you will get a wrist band. This way if it is rainy I don't have to cancel, painters will decide for themselves.

All the money goes to top 3 prizes so it is a variable as to how many participate. Just a fun event.

Thanks
Jan

Milwaukee Sketch Club at Elegant Farmer 6/4/15

About 6 of us braved the uncertain weather on Thursday morning to paint at the Elegant Farmer. It was cloudy and looked like it might rain but it didn't. Breeze kept off any bugs. It was a dimly lit, low key light morning without shadows.

Here's some pictures from John. Thank you John!

p.s. Al, Juanita, and Joyce R. went plein air painting last Tuesday evening. "Was fine, a little cool" Al wrote.
