Call to Artists from Lynn Rix

from:
WIPAPA mricl4hlth@aol.gmail.com via mail90.atl111.rsgsv.net

Call to Artists from LYNN RIX:
I have been asked to exhibit in and curate a show at the Menomonee Valley Urban Ecology Center. After
much thought, I am putting out feelers to the members of WIPAPA to gage the interest in joining me in this
show. There will be room for 8-10 artists to each enter 4-5 paintings. The parameters for entry would be
that at least 2 of the paintings be painted in the neighborhood of the UEC-MV , and that all of the works
be in keeping with the mission of the Center: To foster ecological understanding as inspiration for
change, neighborhood by neighborhood ; To use the park to teach neighborhood students about nature
and science; To protect and restore urban green spaces in Milwaukee. I am visualizing works that depict
wild native plant and animal species, the Menomonee River, activities at the center and environs, and the
urban neighborhood close to center. The invited artists would be expected to join a paint-out at the center
at least once ( I am hoping for at least three opportunities) . The show would hang next fall. Dates to be
determined soon, but they are thinking mid September - December, with a possibility of being a part of the
fall gallery night and day. The works would be for sale, the UEC would take a 20% commission.
Please email me if you are interested asap. Thanks. Lynn Rix LrixHome@aol.com

Winter Workshops You Don't Want to Miss

from:
Richeson School of Art & Gallery artschool@richesonart.com via richesonart.ccsend.com

Winter seems to put many of us into "hibernation mode," sucking inspiration and enthusiasm for creative pursuits into the polar vortex.  WE HAVE THE SOLUTION: Get out of the house and into the beautiful Richeson School of Art studio for a re-energizing workshop!

Thursday February 5 through Saturday February 7 will find artists learning "The Painterly Way" with former Art School Director TERRY STANLEY. This workshop is all about techniques to become more painterly from start to finish and how to make up for the shortcomings of photographic reference to make your work more vibrant and alive. You'll work from live setups and photographic reference. More information and registration by clicking HERE.  Demos will be in oils, but any medium is welcome. BONUS: Terry will also help you learn how to use your tablet (and app ArtRage3) as a tool for better paintings (optional participation).  Check out Terry's work at TerryStanley.com

Wednesday March 18 through Saturday March 21, Richeson's welcomes one of today's most prominent young artists, DAVID CHEIFETZ who will teach a workshop focusing on Still Life Composition & Painting. David is fast becoming one of the top artists in the country thanks to his amazing color sense, imaginative subject matter and big, juicy strokes made with both brush and palette knife.  This workshop is limited to only NINE participants to insure you get alot of personal at-the-easel instruction!
More information and registration info by clicking HERE. You can see more of David's work on his website. You really don't want to miss this rare opportunity, David's first workshop in the Midwest!

Of course there are other exciting workshops coming to Richeson's later in the year. Check them out by clicking HERE.

Gathering at the Funeral Home on Saturday, January 31, 2015, 10AM-12:45PM. Memorial Service by Henry L. Palmer Lodge #301 F.&A.M. at 1PM followed by religious service. 2015 A Blank Canvas! Happy New Year! from WIPAPA

from: WIPAPA mricl4hlth.aol.com@send.mailchimpapp.com via mail73.atl11.rsgsv.net
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

First I want to thank you all for your part in WIPAPA.

To the Artists:  Everytime any of you are outside painting and visible to another person it helps to establish plein air painting in our state. I think we have made great progress in 2014. More and more I am hearing "Oh I've heard of that." instead of "What are you doing?"

To our Collectors: THANK YOU! Where would we be without you?

To the event Organizers!: Oh my goodness! How hard you work! We see you! We THANK YOU!!!

There were 16 competitions in Wisconsin last year and I know we will be adding to that list this year. The first one of the year is a WINTER event in Mineral Point the first week in February! I have started a 2015 list of events on the blog. If you are an event director please get me your link asap! Many artists plan work schedules and vacation time around your events and some need to put in for vacation months before!!! So if you know you are planning an event even if your site has a page saying "Save this Date!" I need that link from you!!

Did you know there is currently a Plein Air Exhibit at the Charles Allis Museum? It will hang until January 25th so you still have time to see it!

Also Watch this blog and mark your calendars for January 24: Our annual Winter Bash Party and Art Exchange!

LETS PAINT!!!

What a great year we have had in Plein Air!

I just want to thank you all for your participation in WIPAPA this year and for helping to make the words "plein air" go from "What's that?" to "I've heard about that!" We have made great progress but we still have a long way to go!

Watch for info for our annual Winter Party and Art Exchange on January 24th....

I hope you all have a wonderful Holiday and a fabulous 2015 in Paint!

from:
Richfield Art Fair <artfairrhs@gmail.com>

There is still time to take advantage of the discounted booth fee of $50 if you submit your application for Richfield Art at the Mill by January 17, 2015.
Richfield Art at the Mill is a juried art & fine craft fair and a plein air painting competition to be held on July 25, 2015.  This is the 7th year for this event. The fair is held outside nestled among the trees and surrounded by historical buildings in the beautiful Richfield Nature & Historical Park (Washington County.)

Amenities for exhibiting artists:
  • Ample space between booths
  • Easy pull-up for unloading
  • Reasonable $50 booth fee (on or by 1-17-15) or $60 (between 1-18-15 and 3-14-15)
  • Low jury fee of $10 (two jury dates of 1-20-15 and 3-17-15 with artist notification one week after)
  • Discount on food
  • Booth reliever
  • Free coffee/pastries during setup time
  • Tickets for historic buildings tour located in the park
  • Friendly staff
The quality of our fair is very important which is why (beginning in 2015) we are jurying all submitted photos at the same time.  There are two Deadline Dates (lst Deadline: 1-17-15 and 2nd Deadline 3-14-15).  Jurying will take place right after each deadline with artist notification approximately one week thereafter.  This assures the best arts and fine crafts will be selected for exhibit.  The number of like exhibitors will be limited as well to assure a better balance and variety.  (For example, the number of jewelry exhibitors will be capped at seven.  So, apply early for best chance of selection.)

Advertising is very important for art fairs.  This event will be widely advertised in print, broadcast & social media and promoted through many local businesses. We want to reach as many potential attendees as possible. Free admission to the fair and the extra benefit of being able to tour historic buildings are attractive factors.

An application form and guidelines are attached and also available at: www.richfieldhistoricalsociety.org.
(Home Page under 2015 Events.)  Feel free to call or e-mail with any questions.

Happy New Year!
