Richfield Art at the Mill, July 25, 2015

from:
RHS Art Fair
artfairrhs@gmail.com

As you plan your 2015 art fair schedule, I would like to invite you to apply toRichfield Art at the Mill.  This is a juried art & fine craft fair and a plein air painting competition to be held on July 25, 2015.  This is our 7th year for this event. The fair is held outside nestled among the trees and surrounded by historical buildings in the beautiful Richfield Nature & Historical Park (Washington County.)

Amenities for exhibiting artists:
  • Ample space between booths
  • Easy pull-up for unloading
  • Reasonable $50 booth fee (on or by 1-17-15) or $60 (between 1-18-15 and 3-14-15)
  • Low jury fee of $10 (two jury dates of 1-20-15 and 3-17-15 with artist notification one week after)
  • Discount on food
  • Booth reliever
  • Free coffee/pastries during setup time
  • Tickets for historic buildings tour located in the park
  • Friendly staff
The quality of our fair is very important which is why (beginning in 2015) we are jurying all submitted photos at the same time.

There will be two Deadlines (lst Deadline: 1-17-15 and 2nd Deadline 3-14-15).

Jurying will take place right after each deadline with artist notification approximately one week thereafter.  This assures the best arts and fine crafts will be selected for exhibit.  The number of like exhibitors will be limited as well to assure a better balance and variety.  (For example, the number of jewelry exhibitors will be capped at seven.  So, apply early for best chance of selection.)

Advertising is very important for art fairs.  This event will be widely advertised in print, broadcast & social media and promoted through many local businesses. We want to reach as many potential attendees as possible. Free admission to the fair and the extra benefit of being able to tour historic buildings are attractive factors.

An application form and guidelines are attached and also available at: www.richfieldhistoricalsociety.org.
(Home Page under 2015 Events.)  Feel free to call or e-mail with any questions.

Rotating Exhibits
The Miller Art Museum's process on selecting future exhibits
By Alyssa Skiba

On Saturday, the Miller Art Museum (MAM) in Sturgeon Bay will host an opening reception for its final changing exhibit of 2014, Hands In Clay. The exhibit will feature dozens of pieces of pottery, representing a cross-section of Door County potters and their creations.
"Gillian" by Stephanie Evans.

Each year, the museum mounts seven changing exhibits "to explore the full array of media and expression, hoping to stimulate, educate, and inspire visitors of all ages." This year's other exhibits have included pop-up children's books, high school art, classical and contemporary drawings, artwork based on travel, and the annual juried exhibit.

With the variety of media and artists represented in this year's exhibits, one might wonder how the MAM goes about choosing its exhibits. Curator of Exhibits and Collections Deborah Rosenthal refers to it as an "organic" process that sometimes takes several years to come together.

The museum regularly collects ideas from its staff, membership and volunteers, and keeps a file of suggested ideas from artists in the community. They also regularly receive information from Door County artists.

Painting Techniques of the Italian Reannaissance

From: James Hempel <jwhempel@hotmail.com>

As the year ends, I am pleased to offer you another winter season of full day art workshops, all held in the warmth of my Milwaukee teaching studio. To accommodate busy holiday schedules, I have had many requests to both extend the number of sessions during the week for each workshop, and to also include at least one weekend session on Saturday afternoons. These day long workshops are for all ability levels, from beginners looking to spend a day to jump start their creative talents, to experienced artists looking to take their artistic skills and vision to the next level.

I hope you can join us!
-James

Painting Techniques of the Italian Renaissance:
An All Day Paint Along Workshop

This workshop is being offered at my studio as a complement to the current wonderful special exhibition at the Milwaukee Art Museum: Of Heaven and Earth: 500 Years of Italian Painting From Glasgow Museums

In this workshop we will explore, in depth, the techniques employed by renowned artists of the Italian Renaissance such as Leonardo, Raphael, and Titian, to create some of the art world's most admired masterpieces. Paint along with James as we discover the artistic processes prevalent in Florence and Venice, the two most prominent art centers of the Italian High Renaissance. Through a step by step study of two separate paintings, we will detail all the traditional materials and methods involved, with necessary adaptations for contemporary materials where time constraints apply.

3 Sessions:
Saturday, Nov. 15th,       12:30 - 5:30 PM
Friday, Nov. 21st,    10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Monday, Nov. 24th, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Class fee: $50.00
*a materials list will be sent to those who respond with interest

Please let me know if you have any questions. I am looking forward to wonderful day of art history and painting in the studio.
I hope you can join us!
-James
