Seeking Symmetry from Peninsula Pulse
Seeking Symmetry
Matthew James Smith exhibits at Base Camp Coffee Bar
By Sally Slattery
Matthew James Smith sips a chai not far from the fire in Base Camp
Coffee Bar, turning his gaze from one black and white photograph on
the wall to the next - haunting, mesmerizing, and remarkably
symmetrical images of various landscapes, buildings, and objects.
Many of the photographs on display were snapped in Door County - though they are not your typical sunsets, well-known landmarks, or cherry trees. "A lot of these are from a couple miles away," says Smith, who currently resides in Ellison Bay. "I love it up here, but I'm running out of locations to shoot."

Invitation to Exhibit at Fine Arts Fair
From: Richfield Art Fair <artfairrhs@gmail.com>
Are you setting up your 2013 art fair schedule? If you still have July 27 open, please consider applying for Art at the Mill.
5th Annual Art at the Mill
July 27, 2013
Richfield Historical Park
Richfield, WI - Washington County
This fine arts and plein air fair is held in a beautiful, natural
wooded park. The park contains an historic grist mill and other
log/frame buildings which are open for tours during the fair giving an
added incentive to attendees. For the past four years, there has been a
nice variety of exhibiting artists. Surveys submitted by 2012 artists
indicated most planned to return in 2013. Work is being done to
establish contacts beyond the surrounding communities to encourage
making the fair a ‘destination’ – visit the fair for half a day and
another nearby attraction for the other half. Additional advertising is
being planned. Our goal is to ‘grow’ this already successful fair with
increased attendance and number of exhibiting fine arts artists.
The amenities of this fine arts and plein air fair are:
- ample space between booths
- discounted booth fee $50 (before 6/20/2013); $60 after that date
- low jury fee - $10
- free coffee/pastries during setup
- help during setup/takedown if requested
- discount on food
- booth reliever
- tickets for historic buildings tour
- fliers available for advertising
The number of jewelry exhibitors will be limited this year and
will be considered on a first-come, first-serve basis. There is still
space for two jewelry exhibitors.
Attached are the Guidelines and Application Form. These documents are also on our website.
If you have questions, feel free to contact me.
