MSC member Bill Gutzwiller passed away

MSC members,

Those of you who have been with MSC for a few weeks knew our great pastelist, Bill Gutzwiller. I just noticed his obit in today's paper. Check it out in the paper or it must be on the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel obituaries on the Internet. He was a very interesting and talented guy. Funeral is Saturday, 11:00am, at Church of the Immaculate Conception, 1023 E. Russell Avenue, Milwaukee. Visitation starts at 9am at church.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Joyce

Unitarian Universalist Church West Exhibit Opportunity

Unitarian Universalist Church West

Artwork Review Procedure, Exhibit Application & Schedule of Exhibits

If you are interested in exhibiting or selling your work at UUCW Art Gallery, please fill out the Gallery Exhibit Application. The Art Gallery Committee will review your work to make sure it is gallery-ready, fits the show theme if it is a themed show, and isn’t redundant in style to submissions already approved.

UUCW will retain a 15% commission on all works sold. Checks for the full retail amount will be made out to UUCW. When the checks clear, the balance minus the 15% will be paid to the artist.

1. We encourage prospective artists to look over our website (http://www.uucw.org) and to visit The Gallery in person before submitting artwork for consideration. You can drop by the church at 13001 West North Avenue Brookfield, WI and pick up an application or download one at http://www.uucw.org/community/music-visual-arts. If you’re unsure about your pricing, leave that blank on the application and we’ll discuss it with you.

2. Email jpeg photos for consideration to the Gallery Coordinator, Carol Christ Hoffmann. Contact the UUCW office for the email address and phone number. Use your best judgment about quantity.

3. Upon acceptance, you’ll need a completed application and contract, bio, an artist’s statement and your real work, not reproductions. All work should be professionally presented (gallery-ready). Framed work must be wired. For three-dimensional pieces, call the Gallery Coordinator, Carol Christ Hoffmann for assistance.

Sargent and Sorolla - Learning from the Masters - 11/18/11 10am - 4pm

John Singer Sargent and Joaquin Sorolla are considered by many to be two of the finest painters of the late 19th to early 20th century. Although known as two of the most accomplished portraitists of their day, they also were extraordinary plein air painters, capturing on canvas gorgeous effects of sunsplashed light and color with bravura brushwork and an elegant eye. Paint along with me as we study in depth the vision and techniques of these two masters of plein air painting.
We have had a great time at previous workshops in the studio. I hope you will be able to join us for this one!

When: Friday November 18th, 2011, from 10 AM - 4:00 PM

Where: James Hempel Fine Arts Studio

133 W. Pittsburgh Ave, Studio #503

Milwaukee, WI 53204

Price for this workshop is $50

Supplies:

In addition to the standard oil painting supplies (paints, brushes, palette, odorless mineral spirits, paper toweling, etc.)

you will need to bring 2 small to medium (11"x 14" or 12"x 16") canvases or canvas boards to paint on.

We will take a short break for lunch. You can pack a brown bag or run across the street to Alterra.

If you have any other questions regarding this workshop or need directions to my studio, feel free to give me a call or reply to this message.

Thank you,

James Hempel

Lorin Willey Class At MAM, Thursday night 11/9/11 starting at 4:30pm

From: Lorin.Willey@harley-davidson.com

Subject: Class this Thursday at the MAM

Hello Folks,

This Thursday, November 10th we will be having my class at the Milwaukee Art Museum.

As stated this tour of the Impressionist Exhibit will be a scheduled class, however it will be at a reduced rate of only $20. Please bring cash or a check made out to myself as we are not having it at the Raven Gallery facility.

Do not enter the exhibit until we are all assembled together as a group. Everyone, please meet at the ticket desk area. Wait there until the entire group is present. Please be there no later than 4:30pm as we will begin the tour at that time.

I will be lecturing and answering questions as we go clockwise through the exhibit. Impressionism is one of my specialties so this will be a very informative class. I recommend that you bring a note pad and pen so that you can take notes.

After class we will be going over to the Co. Clare Restaurant on Astor Street which is about 10 minutes away from the Art Museum. I have enclosed a link to the Co. Clare in case we get separated after the exhibit. http://www.countyclare-inn.com/ I am estimating that we will arrive at Co. Clare at about 7pm.

I need all of you to RSVP to this email so that we know who we are waiting for at the ticket desk area.

If you do not RSVP you may miss the start. If you cannot make it at 4:30pm let me know. Within reason we will wait for you if you inform me that you will be a bit late. But let’s try to be there as close to 4:30pm as possible.

This should be a very entertaining night. I hope to see you all there.

Yours in paint,

Lorin
