Villa Terrace 9/22/11

Day was cloudy and threatened to rain but it never did. Actually if it had rained it wouldn't have mattered because there was plenty of shelter.

What Creates Public Art Controversy? by Pegi Christiansen

One of our models, Pegi, is conducting a tour for Doors Open Milwaukee on September 24th.
http://DoorsOpenMilwaukee.org/

It is a terrific weekend of free events when dozens of buildings will be open downtown for people to explore, and She is leading the tour described below.

27. What Creates Public Art Controversy? Join Pegi Christiansen in a downtown walking tour that will explore public art controversy.

Tickets: Required (You obtain the free tickets at City Hall)

Time: Saturday, 3:30pm

Duration: 90 minutes

Capacity: 20

Meet: at “The Calling” at the very east end of E. Wisconsin Avenue and finish at Cathedral Square.

Pegi Christiansen has studied the dynamics of public art controversies. As chair of IN:SITE, fostering temporary public art, and as an outspoken member of the Milwaukee County Public Art Committee, Christiansen will focus on five pieces of public art (and reference many others) during the ten-block tour. Christiansen will engage the participants in a discussion about the elements that are involved in the selection of an artist, the role of the “public” in public art, what happens to “permanent” public art after it is installed, and envision the process for a public art project.

Villa Terrace, Lakeside

Great shadows cast by the ornate iron gate. Started out sunny this morning, pleasant temperature but then it became overcast. The wind shifted and it became hazy (looked cloudy, but smelled like smoke) from the Minnesota boundary water wildfires that have been burning since August 18.

Jeanne is calling to see if we can meet inside Villa Terrace next week Thursday at 1:30pm.

Barnacle Buds 7/13/11

Fun place to go. Paint in the morning, then eat lunch when they open up.

Veteran's Park on Milwaukee's Lakefront 9/8/11

We parked along the road next to the lagoon. Veteran's Park is quite large. You can see discovery world and the milwaukee art museum across the water. There's sailboats which you can watch at the east end of the park. The paddle boats are in the lagoon at the west end of the park. A lot of people running, walking, biking.... Nice Fall day.
