Alice Wilson presents:

VIPER night!

Been searching for a unique drawing event, an alternative to academic figure
drawing and traditional open drawing sessions? Well, look no further!
Vintage Inspired Portrait & EntertainmentRoom or *VIPER* night is here!
What is *VIPER* night?

My intent is for VIPER to be a fun, funky, exciting, alternative to traditional academic figure drawing sessions. It's an opportunity for me to meld my love of all things vintage with my love of art, modeling, theatre, and music.
My ultimate goal for VIPER is for it to be held monthly at a different location. Starting out I may only be able to have it quarterly or once every 2-3 months. It really depends on the success of this first one and how
quickly I am able to find/book model(s), entertainment and a venue for the next. The premiere VIPER night will have a 1950's kitsch feel-perfect in time for Thanksgiving!
Award winning vocalist, Chanel le Meaux will be singing and local actress/art model, Sarah Fennig will be posing ala 1950's pin up style. The amazing bartenders at BYO will be crafting tasty cocktails-some of the best in town! There will likely be a drink special or two! I recommend the Strawberry Caparina. Please read below
for more details and I hope to see many of you on November 20th!

Sincerely,

Alice Wilson

**FAQ's** (Yes, I'm getting them already. :-)

Q: Do I have to arrive by 7:00?
A: Nope. Think of it as more like going to see a band. You can arrive and
leave whenever you wish.

Q: Will there be drawing horses?
A: Yes, but a limited number, probably 5 or 6 available on a first come
first serve basis. There are also lots of other seating options & lounging
spots at BYO. I want everyone to be able to mingle & move around the
space freely.

Q: What if I don't draw?
A: No worries! I don't either, umm not well anyway. You don't have to!
That's why there's entertainment. I want everyone to feel welcome & have
fun! There will be turkey pictures available to color & decorate &
hang on the wall! :-)

Q: Can I draw Chanel?
A: Yes! Trust me, you'll want to! She wears really cool dresses & costumes!

Q: Will the model be nude?
A: No. Because of the nature of the event and it being open for everyone.
She will be in wonderful retro 50's outfits!

Q: How long will the poses be?
A: 5-20 minutes each

Q: What can I expect? What will it be like?
A: A party where lots of people are drawing and where an amazing singer is
singing. Expect to hear some Elvis when Chanel in taking a break. There will
always be someone to draw from. I plan to stagger Chanel and Sarah's breaks
so that they are aren't on break at the same time. 1950's kitsch. Hopefully
some indication of a 50's kitchen as a backdrop for the model. Did I mention
Elvis?

Q: How do I get tickets?
A: They are available at BYO and from me. They are $10. At the door they
will be $15.

Q: I'm a photographer. Can I take photos?
A: Yes. I'd bring releases.

For one night only BYO studio in Bayview will be transformed into a *V*intage
*I*nspired *P*ortrait & *E*ntertainment *R*oom! Award winning vocalist
Chanel le Meaux of the Chanel le Meaux Trio will tantalise you with her
elegant and artistic vocal talents. Art model and actress, Sarah Fennig will
pose using inspiration from vintage pin up art by artists such as Gil
Elvgren, Alberto Vargas, & Joyce Ballantyne. Feel free to come and draw or
just be entertained and inspired! Perfect for animators, illustrators or
those seeking an alternative to traditional drawing sessions!

Milwaukee Sketch Club at Calhoun Park Saturday 10/23

It was raining pretty good so we decided to stand under a pavilion to paint. Saw a lot of fall berries, interesting moss, a toad. There are two streams, a pond, a playground and various structures. On one end of the park is a farm and across the street is a nursery. At the junction of calhoun & beloit rd. I saw an old tiled silo. Fall colors were still pretty good.

Lincoln Parkway, Wed 10/20

There was a change of plans and we decided to paint at 54st & Lincoln Parkway (Just south of Hampton.) There was a brisk breeze today so we decided to climb down into the riverbed to paint. The river is quite low not like earlier this year when it was very high. You can still see a log stuck into the rusty metal walking bridge. No biting insects but just one lonely cricket, a kitty and ducks kept us company. Still quite a few fall flowers.

Next Wednesday, Oct 27, we plan to meet at 9:30am at Big Bay Park in Whitefish Bay just north of Hampton on N Lake Rd (Hwy 32).

Lower Phantom Lake at the end of Lake Rd, Mequon 10/18

Starting to get chilly. Only 60 degrees, slight breeze, clouds moved in & covered the sun. Not quite glove weather yet. Fall colors are turning towards winter brown and gray, less bright than last week. Quite a few trees have lost their leaves. This would be a good place to return to and paint in winter.

10/25 DNR gravel road entrance to Vernon Marsh just before railroad tracks on NN

  • Make Rt at Pick N' Save onto NN

Caran d'ache demo by Pat King, Tuesday 10/12

Pat King taught high school students for many years. After retirement she studied with Jean Crane a watercolor artist. Pat's primary medium is watercolor by itself and with Caran D'Ache.

She generally does Caran D'ache over watercolor paintings to intensify the color. She showed us drawing with the "crayons" then wetting them with a brush, picking up color from the crayons with a wet brush then applying it, mixing crayon shavings with water to make a paste which was then applied.

Here's a few links with info about her:

Directions:
  • From Hy I43, turn north onto Hy 83 past the Pick N Save about one mile.
