Possible Healthy Neighborhoods sketch opportunity

Rebecca of Urban Anthology Inc who is involved with Milwaukee's 9 Healthy Neighborhoods program has suggested we include the following places in our plein air outings:

Lincoln Village, Capitol Heights, Thurston Woods, Havenwoods, Sherman Park, Layton Boulevard West, Martin Drive, etc. Each neighborhood is funded through the Greater Milwaukee Foundation to focus on what's positive (not negative) about these neighborhoods and, with this approach, encouraging residents to invest in their homes and to connect with their community.

Here's an excerpt from her email:
"I was planning to invite your Sketch club to a Lincoln Village event (I know you've sketched the Basilica in the past but maybe there is more of interest here, too), but then I thought: Wouldn't it be wonderful if all 9 neighborhoods could be sketched? We're in the process of building websites and publicity for the neighborhoods and having artists' images to represent them could be just wonderful. The bonus for the Sketch club members would be getting introduced (or re-introduced) to each of these neighborhoods, the majority of which are SO underappreciated."

This Thursday's Plein air in Genesee starting at 2

A member just drove through development to check on road conditions, which are good, as there is one house being built deep in. There is a beautiful view downhill looking back east as well as a vista looking NW.

directions are:
  • Rt. 43 Mukwonago exit, turn right, drive through village and continue north on rt 83.
  • Watch for, but continue driving north on rt 83:
  • intersection Road I
  • haybale snowman
  • Rt X west
  • Rt X east - Do turn on your left turn signal as Field's Crossing Dr is at very crest of this upcoming hill (just past hwy X east.)

If coming in from Milwaukee on rt 94,
  • exit first Delafield exit.
  • Turn left onto rt 83 south, drive approx 7 miles.
  • Continue past intersection of rt 59 at Genesee on 83 south.
  • Watch for spring brook creek where 83 dips, climbs, and does an S curve. McFarlane Rd should be on your left,
  • be ready to turn right into Field's Crossing at very crest of hill just past McFarlane.

A member will be on site at 2pm. Weather is to be sunny at 30*, hope to see you there!

This Thursday's Plein Air Outing in Mukwonago

We will be painting an architecturally interesting old church in Mukwonago. We can park on the side of the street for a good view.

Take Hy 83 north from Hy 43 or Hy ES, or south on Hy 83 to Pearl Ave. (It's the stoplight near Citizen's Bank). Turn east onto Pearl Avenue a few blocks, left or north onto Division. You will see the church right away, one-half block north on the fork in the road, Division and Grand Ave. There is a bathroom in the Mukwonago Library which is within walking distance, about 1-1/2 blocks north.

One of our members just got permission to paint on Phantom Ranch grounds in Mukwonago so that's where we plan to paint next week Thursday, 2/11. There are interesting old buildings, a lake, horses and fields.
